Except for, you know, most episodes in which the ponies go on adventures all across the land with the help of Megan who is more strategic in the show (and her siblings are often helpful and insightful, so they weren’t a bad addition), against threats that, while not as monstrous as Tirac, are still quite evil, and many of which don’t get to be redeemed. I mean, Catrina and Charlatan had underestandable redemptions since they weren’t originally super bad guys, but Grogar, Squirk, the Witches, Erebus and Lavan (among many other minor villains) were not forgiven for their actions.
 
Also, ponies in real life are pretty chubby and the show designs are more accurate to the toys so there’s absolutely nothing wrong with how they look in the cartoon. Also, I’ll take Wind Whistler, Gusty or Fizzy over Firefly any day. And they already lived in a product placement playset in the pilot, what do you think that castle was? lol

I don’t agree with this for many reasons. One, not all the villains are goofy and cartoony. Grogar, Squirk, Lavan, and Somnambula were not that goofy or cartoony. I disagree that they look like hippos in the series. Megan makes plenty of mistakes and needs saving a dozen times. Dream Castle and Paradise Estate are equally product placement. I actually don’t mind her siblings most of the time.
 
No offense but Wind Whistlers is a better character than Firefly, no matter how much I like Firefly. Also not all the villains learn to be good, Lavan was shattered into pieces in the Quest for the Princess Ponies, Grogar was banished, etc. The amount of villains that turned good isn’t really any larger than the ones that got redemption in G4.

The G1 ponies aren’t hippo like, they’re still kinda like horses but the original one is more horselike though.
 
I’m guessing it was soccer moms or something that caused G1 to be toned down in a way.

Just to point out, the castle in RaMC wasn’t any less product-placement than Paradise Estate, it was basically 1983 Dream Castle.

Don’t forget Tirek and Scorpan.

I’m not going to claim this to be true but I think more often then not the villain didn’t learn to be good  
examples:  
-the witches  
-Grogar  
-the gizmonks  
-that giant octopus I can’t remember the name of  
-Arabus  
-Somnambula  
-The flories  
-that wizard who made the furniture come to life  
-lavan  
-those dragons in spikes search  
-the fake french princess or whatever she was

On the other hand, the G1-Movie had the SMOOOOOOOOOZE!! BOWBOWBOWBOWBOW!…
