Velvet is bending down to look for her medicine, exposing her rear end. Pip, who happens to be very attracted to her, hears her talking and looks over to see what is going on. She’s surprised by the sudden amount of flank on clear display for her. After recovering from the unexpected sexy, she marvels dat ass.

And you’re complaining about my complaints on a site centered around art of fictional miniature ponies, insulting my intelligence based on a debate that subsided weeks ago.

Oh fuck, where did all this text come from? I feel appalled for even contributing towards this mess. My apologies.

On that note, I’d like to mention that this gif is great, and its existence is truly a wonderful thing.

Dammit. Anyway my point still stands– the coloration of ponies is at least, to some extent, determined by some very different factors than those that determine human coloration. Obviously, ponies will resemble their parents, but to some extent they also resemble their destinies/surroundings. From what we’ve seen of Canterlot, many of the prominent ponies there have more elaborate colors in their manes, and a lot more blues, purples, and whites in their color schemes. It doesn’t always apply to the background ponies because they tend to get reused a lot, but it’s noticeable enough. What I’m saying is that coloring a character based on theme, destiny, or setting is not something new to the franchise.

As for Fallout New Vegas, I tried to run it to come up with specific examples but my game kept crashing. But play the game for a while and at some point you’ll come across NPCs that are sickly greenish-yellow or an almost purple ashen color. And Fallout Tactics has pink and purple super mutants, but isn’t actually canon anyway so I guess it’s irrelevant.

>Have you ever seen a blue or purple colored member of the apple family?
Yes; at least two.
However, I don’t believe that ponies’ colors come from their surroundings; consider Rarity, who stands out from amongst the other ponies of Ponyville but has a coat like her father’s and a mane like her mother’s. (Sweetie Belle’s mane is the color of her mother’s mane and coat combined; her green eyes are presumably recessive.) Shining Armor has his mother’s coat color and his father’s mane; Twilight’s coat color is her mother’s hair, and her mane is like a combination between Mom’s mane and Dad’s.

As for oddly-colored characters in Tactics and NV, I’d appreciate screenshots.

You just said that you concluded that Velvet Remedy was a bad OC, purely from an analysis of her color scheme. Assuming you weren’t just saying that for the sake of example, I can conclude that yes, you were making a judgement on her character.

You’re judging the validity of color schemes purely based on how much the resemble pre-war FIM color schemes– and it is valid to argue that in a universe that takes place 200 years after canon, resemblance to the show shouldn’t be the yardstick for measuring the validity of a color scheme. A comparison to human skin tones doesn’t hold any water because human colors don’t work the same as pony colors do. Take, for example, Rainbow Dash– her color scheme of Rainbows and sky-colored blue is closely tied to what she does for a living. The various members of the Apple Family, whether close or extended, are a mix of colors commonly found in nature. This is in stark contrast with the royally-colored Twilight Sparkle, who comes from Canterlot, a city of odd colored twisting polished spires and the seat of royal power. Have you ever seen a blue or purple colored member of the apple family?

Applesnack, a prewar pony, was originally pastel green, consistent with his name, race, and the family of his romantic partner. Littlepip, who was born in the cold, bluish grey steel confines of a vault 200 years later, bears not only a resemblance to the world around her but also her cutie mark and destiny– grey over green is the color of a pipbuck (also, John Joseco is the one who originally came up with Littlepip’s color scheme. KKat deliberately does not describe it). Velvet Remedy is an oddity– she’s meant to be uncommonly beautiful and in some ways the antithesis of Littlepip. She doesn’t quite fit in with the other stable dwellers, who are content to live safe, boring lives underground, nor does she really fit with the denizens of the wasteland, because she is an idealist (the wasteland tends to be hard on idealists– just as Arcade Gannon from FNV). To the end of demonstrating this aspect of her character, her exotic color scheme is justified. Although those are not the colors I would have chosen for her, they are valid choices and don’t warrant immediate dismissal.

TL;DR: It makes a lot of sense that post-war ponies would have different color schemes- they have very different environments and destinies than those from the show, which has consistently been shown to be a factor in the way that ponies are colored, very much unlike humans.

Also I apologize for my earlier rudeness but I had concluded that you were trolling.

Also also, I don’t know if you’ve been playing Fallout New Vegas but there are some weird ass skin colors in that game, especially on the freeside NPCs. And don’t even get me started with Fallout Tactics…
