Perhaps Celestia should have consulted Sunset Shimmer. She seemed to have some idea about how mirror-jumping affects the Elements.
 
Also, everything about this series has gone straight-up bananas.

It’s pretty simple, Lauren probably had a concise, holistic set of concepts and ideas to explain the FIM universe so when the show and franchise expanded all the pieces would fit perfectly, but after she stepped down the rest of the team has to try and guess what would happen here and there from their own point of view on what they already had made. It is more than expectable that a lot of the new things would fall out of place, even among themselves.

Well…It could be possible that if one was to hit something twice with the Elements, the second time would null the first…Like an off and on switch? (Gah, I don’t know. Maybe the Elements agreed with Celestia’s plan and she communicated with it…in a way?)
 
But yeah, they seriously need to get something done and explain some things. I love head-cannons, but I love canon material more. Makes it easier to sort things out and come up with limits and whatnot.

That seems rather… convenient? I can see your point though, especially since they represent harmony and such… but how would that explain something like the freeing of Discord? If the Elements are partially sentient and represent harmony, why would they allow themselves to be used to free Discord who is pretty much the polar opposite to the Elements as Chaos?
 
If I remember right, it was mentioned somewhere that after Celestia banished Luna she could no longer use the Elements or something like that. So I can see them being partially sentient. The book that came out recently “The Journal of the Two Sisters” also mentioned that the elements predicted Celestia, Luna, and Twilight’s existence, per say, thousands of years ago and Destiny could have its part. It could be that the Elements knew they needed to be passed on from Celestia and Luna to fulfill their destiny and as such that is why things ended as they did… Ugh, I honestly don’t know.
 
Hasbro really needs to get a good writer, hell maybe even Lauren, to just sit down and write a book that explains a lot of this stuff, its history, and how it works XD

Riddle me this. How is it that Celestia, who knew how the elements worked to a far larger degree than Twilight Sparkle, could only banish her sister and not free her like Twilight, who knew NOTHING about the Elements of Harmony but freed Luna.

I wish we could have had Celestia actually get hurt in such a way that Luna would flip the fuck out and turn back into NMM. Imagine the scared shitless looks the mirrorverse princesses would have when she brings the full lunar fury against them. The evil mirror versions don’t seem to be doing much in the way of effective combat, just dicking around and trolling Sombra. I bet they haven’t faced a really serious opponent for as long as Celestia. Luna Prime going full out would be an utter curb-hoof-stomp. Then she’ll go all ‘creeping shadow what devours all light and minds.’

We’ve been told that they get checked over by Meghan (and Hasbro, natch), so they are loosely canon, but as they are written for the most part outside of the show staff, the show may (and has) overwrite any canon the comics might introduce.

@ArrJaySketch The problem with the comics being such shite is that Hasbro hasn’t licensed anyone else to do comics, therefore these comics being shite prevent non-shite comics from existing. Oh, if only they would also drop the license on Valiant or DH…  
Bet there’s some dumb contract shit preventing them from finding capable comic writers.

@Lathius @Evowizard25 While it’s possible to be a simple time fuckup in flashback terms, or perhaps Granny Smith is just getting senile, I like to think she’s telling as much of the truth as she remembers about the founding in Family Appreciation. The land is utterly bursting with magic so possibly there’s no such thing as ‘immortality blues’ due to the unnaturally long lives of even the magic-less creatures of Equestria. It would be nice to randomly get definitive ages of non-ponies sometime. I figure everyone has Galapagos Tortoise-level longevity as a baseline, which can easily wipe out all timeline questions.

The last thing we need is someone like Metzen (or Kosak, that fucking hack) ruining a story with blatant favoritism and fanwank. The entire Warcraft lore setting is not just riddled with huge holes because of these people, they then outsource the books and other creative material to mediocre-at-best writers and THEN riddle the resulting material with nonsensical executive meddling.
 
Games Workshop is a far better source to draw inspiration from. There are problems, yes, but minor ones compared to the clusterfuck that is Warcraft.
