Oh yeah, I saw a few do that… And the sad thing is, they usually aren’t quite good enough artists to copy the art style of the ones they rip-off perfectly. So there’s no way they could even do commissions without said buyers noticing their art looking much different.
And then there are the ones that take commissions…
(why yes I’d love to see a trace vaguely colored like my own character tyvm)
Yeah, it’s weird they think nobody will notice. It gets further hilarious when you look at their front page with tons of people pointing this out, or accusing them of stealing. They usually respond by flat-out denying it, or not even responding at all, and pretending like nothing is happening. (Like when writing their DA journal, and such.)
It’s really really sad, yet funny.
Those are the most hilarious ones. Like, NOTHING MATCHES. I mean, even I’ll admit that my drawing style fluctuates at times, but you see these galleries that have different pieces that you know there’s NO WAY IN HELL were all done by the same person. XD
One person even actually tried to redraw an image mine, and claim it was their’s, and the “joke” in it was their idea. It looked very badly done, like it was traced off a computer screen. Somebody even commented on it, pointing out they copied my drawing.
Oh yeah, I’ve seen some do that, and the comments to said stolen “popular” pieces are priceless. They really think it’s that easy to fool people. (Even when everything in their DA gallery doesn’t look drawn by the same artist.)
I never got that, either, especially the one that left my name completely intact when they stole an image of mine.
What’s even funnier is when they try to get away with stealing artwork from popular fandom artists, like someone tried to do with CherryViolet’s work.
The same reason people plagerize. They want the recognition without any of the work that makes the recognition worthwhile. They are too mentally immature to understand things from the perspective of anyone else.
One day, they will grow up.

Yeah, the watermarks don’t help to prevent art thieves. They’re not picky.
I’m far from being a “good” artist, but some have even stolen my work to on DA. (Which is a li’l flattering, but annoying.) It was no big deal though, people even recognized my pics, and called the thieves out on it, and reported them. So no harm done.
(Hilariously, one of the thieves even copied my description word for word.)
Seriously why do they do that? Do they think they’ll never get caught, or people will notice their DA page is loaded with drawings that look made by several different other artists? What satisfaction is there?
Nice.
