Actually, it was revealed more recently in Pinkie and Luna’s comic that BOTH sisters were forced to be traditionally distant back then, as part of royalty from one thousand years ago would.
 
Sure, Celestia dealt with it better, but her gig of being the princess of daylight naturally let her have more interactions with other ponies. Something Luna’s did not.
 
Of course, DHX couldn’t be bothered to put this crucial information in the actual show, or even develop their characters at all in show…
