If I remember right “old panther” might be a reference to a Daffy Duck/Porky Pig cartoon that was a westerns parody.
It’s funny that they carefully label the barrels as Sarsparilla, but they let them get away with the bottle of “Old Panther”… which was probably based on a real turn of the century brand of whiskey.
