The vast majority of ponies seems to be wielding improvised weapons and the tools of their trade or no weapons at all, like a mob of hungry burghers gushing out of every gate of their besieged town. That’s a bit strange, Equestria seems to be decently industrialized, the cities at least, and could probably churn out some ten-thousand spears and pikes in a week or two. Maybe the war has been very sudden, maybe even destroying most of the industrial capacities before the princesses could react, or maybe they didn’t account for the sheer amount of volunteers.
 
I can see Fancypants, surprisingly close to the front. Somebody with his contacts and talents would probably better off organizing the supply lines, but who knows: Maybe they made him an officer, seeing how easily he herds cats, encouraging the Canterlot elite to do their share. Fleur could be his badass adjutant, I like the headcanon of her being actually his bodyguard. Or maybe he’s an advisor to the princesses and therefore staying close to them. Or maybe it’s just that personal.
 
Only two Wonderbolts? They’ve been probably been the first responders to whatever’s going on, and not many of them survived that. Ouch.
 
Fluttershy looks adorablawesome with a battle axe. Dash looks a bit constipated, but that’s probably her decapitating face.
 
Are the Elements and the Princesses in the front to raise a strong magic shield or to blast the enemy as soon as possible? Probably depends on what they’re facing. It would usually not be advisable to put your ruler in the very front, but as we know Equestria is ruled Ork-style. (Celestia is da BIGGEST an’ STRONKEST so she’s da BOSS.)
