There’s still some question about Anderson’s employment at IDW.
 
However, the reason we knew about this issue is that Fleecs tweeted a WIP and thus hinting at this, meaning that the story has to be pretty much done; if Anderson’s not involved, I would suspect that the rest of the IDW team will do the best to check Fleecs’ work against the original draft.

True; then another way to take “getting used to life on campus” means that Sunset is actually - like, you know, interacting on friendly terms with the other students, which she basically ignored before (using them more as tools than friends).
 
But the goof makes sense too. The timing would be way off to have it out after the second film’s on disk (which should be Oct or Nov) and then make this something before the first film.

Eh. Reading the description again, there’s just no way this can possibly take place before the first movie. Sunset is said to have “new friends” and is going to “clear her name”. Old Sunset wasn’t friends with the humane five and she wasn’t really that interested in projecting innocence to most people. I think the “getting used to life on campus” is just a blunder by the dude who wrote the preview synopsis there.

The RD issue was Fleecs’ first MLP comic and it was much better than the FS issue. I honestly think a decent part of the problem was a lack of communication between Kesel (the writer for the FS issue) and Fleecs, which becomes really apparent in how poorly page space was used especially in panels like the one where she was cowering under the speech bubbles. It kind of makes me wary about the Pinkie/Twilight MLP:FF issue coming up since the artist for that issue (Brenda Hickey) was recently lamenting on twitter that some scenes written by Kesel take place in the library and it doesn’t seem like she is getting any feedback from Kesel and has been left to herself on how to to reconcile the fact that Twi doesn’t live in the library anymore. It just seems like she is in the habit of handing off the script and moving on.

After the movie. They’re still seniors. EG2 seems like it’s in the Spring, but I’ve forgotten what Principal Celestia said in the teaser.

Every student in the high school Liked Christmas a lot…  
But Sunset, who came from Equestria, did not!  
Sunset hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season!  
Now, please don’t ask why. No one quite knows the reason.  
It could be her head wasn’t screwed on just right.  
It could be, perhaps, that her shoes were too tight.  
But I think that the most likely reason of all,  
May have been that her heart was two sizes too small.

And to add: the “present” of the 2013 Annual could be anywhere from the Freshman year through a few weeks/months before the EQG1 movie (though suggested it’s on the latter side there). The Mane 5 are still all friends, and the only reason we’re hearing their stories is because SS is collecting dirt on them which is implied to be how she set them all against them prior to Twi’s arrival.

And the first comic Annual is a story set at the FFair, where the mane 5 (well, save RD and FS, who knew each other before) meet for the first time.
 
Now keeping that in mind, the first Annual is told a lot in flashback, SS only appears in the “present” as the Mane 5 reflect on their first meeting, so nix what I mentioned before. The synopsis could work before the first movie but after the 2013 annual’s present - (and if we go off the fact SS won the crown the three prior years) - late in the Freshmen year for the Mane 5.
 
Yes, “30 moons = 2.5 years” makes this all flaky with timing with the film, but given how squishy these events all are, there’s definitely room for this story in the known events of the EQG universe.
