Well, the whole Battle of the Bands was actually just a fake. That’s because it was a setup by the Dazzlings to get their Equestrian magic back, and turn humanity against each other and become loyal brainwashed slaves.

OTOH, everybody else (including the teachers judging the event) was somewhat biased against the Rainbooms during the competition due to the Dazzlings magic. The fact that they were even allowed through to the semi-finals on the merit of their performance is really impressive.
 
In other words, the real best two should’ve been Trixie and the Illusions v the Rainbooms. :) Except they couldn’t possibly meet in the final because they’re on the same side of the bracket.

Trixie’s band made it to the semi-finals without the help of real magic. It would have been the finals if the Dazzlings hadn’t helped the Rainbooms. Considering that the Dazzlings were crap without their gems, I think Trixie’s boast about being the most talented girl in CHS was actually accurate.

I am also bugged by how Flash Sentry is basically Shining Armor with all of the interesting parts removed. (& Shining Armor wasn’t all that interesting to begin with…)

By the way, was I the only one slightly disturbed by how similar Flash’s cutie mark looked when arranged that way to Shining Armor’s? Coupled with the (argh) ship tease, it just strengthens those Freudian implications.
