That pony next to the blue griffin seems to be an actual sphinx.  
I can see a lion-like tail, paws, fluffy ears. It also seems to have wings.  
If you look closely, next to the purple-ish guard’s right ear… the body shape doesn’t allign too well, so that most likely has to be a wing that sticks out.  
A winged lion with a pony’s head. A sphinx.  
That’s what makes the most sense to me.

But his “hands” look like paws… Maybe he is like this guy? >>575690 “Equigriff”, as EP named him himself. Or maybe some other strange hybrid?

Hehe, yeah: I mean, darn, you’ve really inspired the heck out of me and at least a few other authors because of the ambiguity your art has/the lack of commentary leaves a lot of room for imagination.
 
Heh, you’ve certainly done a lot of worldbuilding, though, especially looking at the description to your latest deviantart submission (which also answered me wondering what their armor was made of). I think I can kinda understand, though, worldbuilding can sometimes be a lot funner than writing the whole story out. Heh, perhaps it’s fitting that the fic that you’ve inspired the most with your art, is also the one where I’ve almost done entirely worldbuilding but have yet to lay out a plotline despite it almost being a year now since I came up with it XD

Hmm… the snow, dark wood used for the buildings, towers, metal tower, and the “King’s roost” all seem to imply that this isn’t Equestria; perhaps somewhere Scandanavian instead, which would explain the unusual cast of species.
 
In a fanfic world I’m building it reminds me of a nation I’d come up with that’s kind of the trading capital in-between “Europe” and Equestria, making a small, but densely populated and rather influential nation that is a real melting pot of all kinds of different cultures and species, as well as the strongest link in-between Equestrian/Griffon relations (Griffon referring to a number of different nations that are primarily griffons; but really more accurately just European kingdoms).
