Yeah, some people have a different romantic orientation from their sexual orientation.
One can be heterosexual and homoromantic (you only want to fuck the opposite sex but you only want to date the same sex) or the other way around.
One can be asexual and panromantic (you want to date every sex but don’t want to fuck anyone) or the other way around.
@Ihhh
Some folks are willing to pork anyone else but do have a specific preferred gender for forming romantic relationships. Rarity might be one of those mares.
@Background Pony #0C0C
Rarity also has extremely poor judgment in stallions. She should stick to mares, even if it’s a stallion she needs for a long-term stable relationship.
@Keith Mowz
Jeez dude. Got me all rambly and shit, I sound like an SJW.
Though I do agree that he would probably still be not 100% gay, but only because I’m personally of the belief that ain’t nobody a true 100% on either end of the spectrum.
@Background Pony #0A2C
Sexuality is linked to your biology; primarily your brain chemistry. It is something you are born with and potentially changes with you as your body changes. It is not something you can choose. You can pretend to be straight, gay, bi, whatever, be in denial, metaphorically trying to dye your hair a different color, but at the root it’s still whatever you really are. Some people are perfectly content with ignoring what their hair color is and dying it when they’re going out in public. Some people’s hair never changes colors, until it goes grey. (Which I guess would be asexuality in this example. Bonus points towards the non-metaphor; some people’s hair goes grey super young. Hi, Taylor Hicks.)
No fucking duh, hair color isn’t a perfect comparison to your sexuality, it’s not exactly the same thing. That’s why I’m using the example as a metaphor instead of just a literal example. I’m going to start calling you Drax if you continue to be unable to comprehend them.
You and these ‘some people’ can try to pretend that this isn’t true and that someone who showed straight tendancies and now claims to be gay must be bisexual, but that doesn’t stop you from being ignorant and kinda douchy for doing so.
@Keith Mowz
Change in physical appearance is not quite the same thing as one’s sexuality, and in truth many would argue at the idea their sexuality could change over time. For many, it is a shield and defense in seeing sexuality as something one is born with which cannot be changed.
What is important is that I feel the above doesn’t really work as intended, and feel that if the situation above actually happened Spike would be bisexual not gay. Since he has shown attraction to mares it means that he cannot be fully gay, that is my feelings on the subject.
@Background Pony #0A2C
Uh no. The point of that was that it was that sexuality is not a ‘learned’ thing. You don’t choose to be gay, or straight, or any other sexuality. This is not mutually exclusive to the idea that your sexuality will gradually change as you age any more than hair or eye color changing after puberty. (I was Aryan-worthy blond and blue eyed as a kid but after puberty my hair went brown and eyes went green.)
@Scrounge
Though I am a Spike and Rarity shipper myself, with the dragon having grown up a bit that is, I would prefer the above image above merely being that of Twilight saying what she is saying because Rarity is acting irregular (a spell perhaps or being in heat) and/or simply because Spike outgrew his crush with the mare he had in youth but doesn’t want to tell her.
Perhaps he has shown more interest in stallions, which is what is leading Twilight to say what she did, but I still feel that it would be more honest to consider the Spike above being bisexual with a preference shift from mare to stallion. That his attraction to others is now stronger towards males then females.
@Background Pony #0A2C
Considering certain people who shall not be named but should be shamed were (and quite possibly still are) setting up “straight camps” to “cure” them, I think that they would have been justified in saying that even if at the time they had known it to be a lie, which is not necessarily the case.
Or we can just write this off as an alternate universe where Spike had a crush on Big Mac (a cliche, I know, but a cliche for a reason) instead of Rarity and wash our hands of the whole thing.
@Keith Mowz
Yet is not a huge effort being made by the LGBT community in proving that sexuality is fixed, ‘hardwired’ at birth and something that cannot be changed? I could have sworn remember that being a driving idea being put forward by many, that you were born into your sexuality and cannot change it.
Uh, yeah. Sexuality is not a fixed thing and can and often does change throughout a person’s lifetime. Suggesting otherwise is, to quote Macklemore since I’m listening to Thrift Shop, “some ignorant bitch shieeet”.
@Scrounge
Ah, I apologize though even if you didn’t the image above seem to try and suggest that he wasn;t interested,
Possibly, though I would still say it would make him bisexual though moving from showing more attraction to females but later swinging to being more attracted to males.
Perhaps… though some/many could well still point out the fact that Spike, at least, had been attracted to Rarity and questioning how he could be gay.
As for the possibility of Spike being gay, I’d have to check, but I seem to recall it being theoretically possible for someone’s sexual preferences to change during their lifetime.
And it’s entirely possible that someone who didn’t believe what Twilight was saying would just let it go rather than make a big thing of it.
…and fewer are like me and became bi out of misogynistic anger at a former marefriend.
Maybe, but it’s highly unlikely. Most people aren’t bisexual.

That’s not how sexuality works.
Rarity also has extremely poor judgment in stallions. She should stick to mares, even if it’s a stallion she needs for a long-term stable relationship.
One never really knows how badly one wants something until a point comes when one knows that one can no longer have it.
Twilight’s been human.
Stick to fawning over Blueblood or Fancy Pants. ;)
I would rather not argue this anymore
Sure, lets do that.
@Keith Mowz
How about we write this off as “human rules might not apply to dragons anyhow” and call it a day?
Jeez dude. Got me all rambly and shit, I sound like an SJW.
