“Teen Ponies? My Little Titans?
Just another crazy comparison thing that occurred to me
–
I used to watch Teen Titans when I was much younger and really enjoyed it and recently found some DVDs at the library. The similarities in personalities of the cast to the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic ‘mane six’ was intriguing.
At least most of them
Also maybe this little comparison deal will show how similar traits and focus on a small group of friends with multiple dimensions led to two very successful franchises.

Starfire/ Fluttershy: Both are animal loving, retiring, calm and caring individuals who are awkward socially but the heart of their respective teams, mediating arguments between their friends. Both also can call upon great strength when in dire need.
–
Chances are good on meeting the two would actually be very comfortable with each other, shyness canceling out shyness and their natural good natures shining through. Also the utter purity and innocent misunderstandings of Starfire would appeal to Flutter who could try to adopt her like a pet.

Raven/ Twilight Sparkle: Both are clever, closeted book lovers proficient in the mystical arts who would largely, at least at first, avoid the company of others in favor of study and mediation on magic. Both are much more practical and down to earth then their fellows. Both also have powers so potent they can be dangerous without discipline.
Also BOTH are voiced by Tara Strong!
–
On meeting I’d imagine a fairly impressive partnership forming between the two dark magicians as their attitudes are pretty close, and both could relate to the trials of dealing with friends who are less then reasonable 100% of the time.

Beast Boy/ Pinkie Pie: Both are class clowns with massive inferiority complexes but a capacity for endless celebration. They’re pranksters, love breaking the mood with a joke, and both have the most chance of breaking the fourth wall.
–
These are two people who should probably never meet as that much destructive mischief could be extraordinarily dangerous. Still they would get along infamously as both have a liking for wacky/crude humor.

Cyborg/ Applejack: Hardest working and strongest among their friends. They enjoy sports, hands on projects, and are reliant defenders of their communities.
–
This would be an interesting meeting because although Cyborg tends to have extreme emotions AJ is a little more reserved.
They’d probably get along eventually, but only after they found some kind of middle ground. Probably food.

Terra/ Rainbow Dash: Not technically a Teen Titan, Terra still resembles Dash in her recklessness, joy in her powers, semi-rebellious bent and both could be considered the most tempted of their friends as well, constantly being hounded by their enemies to give in to their desires.
–
Both would spend many an afternoon arguing over what was currently ‘cool’.

Robin/Rarity: This one is a tentative alliance as neither completely resembles each other, but there are similarities. Rarity and Robin are both fairly serious compared to their fellows , both industrious and dedicated to their craft. Both are also very headstrong. Also, in the words of :iconthebebegirl:, they
both handle the funny guy in the group with just a smile, both are interested in appearance, but neither judge solely on it. Both are very clever and not afraid to use tricks in their way out of things. Both are willing to sacrifice much of their own things to assist people, even total strangers.
–
Either a meeting of the two would result in them hating each other or seeing eye to eye. There’s little room for middle ground with either character.

According to an interview of the creators of Teen Titans I hunted down there’s something called ‘The Squint Test’. When you squint you can more clearly make out shapes, filtering out details and colors but keeping general iconic images in focus.
This was the philosophy behind MLP and Teen Titans I believe: making iconic characters easily distinguishable and even recognizable from life to a certain extent but with marked exaggerations to make them larger then life.
This is a good philosophy to follow to make memorable characters and also a good guide to building into these traits, foibles, relationships and the like. If you can’t define a character or separate by an associated image or behavior you have not made a character many will be able to remember or understand.
Image isn’t enough. Problems aren’t enough. You need a heart and soul to your creations so crazy people like me can compare and contrast one day I’d say :aww:”
