You know what? Sorry, I thought Jeremiah 10 was talking about Christmas Trees when it was speaking of people taking trees and carving them into idols. If I don’t hear the Bible verses in their proper context I get a mash-up that doesn’t tell the truth, yes? I hope I didn’t cause any unnecessary stress by posting that.
Capitalism has already “touched” literally every aspect of human culture and society, so I’m not sure what to take from your statement.
Well, other than the idea that you don’t like capitalism very much. Personally, I think it’s swell!
That’s my point. Everything capitalism touches is turned into a product meant for the highest possible margin. (and I mean “everything”)
Christmas is, at this point, capitalism given form anyway.
Replace “Christmas” with “Capitalism”.
It isn’t Christmas until one of those radio stations starts doing “a month long of Christmas songs”; starts December 1st and keeps going until a few days after Christmas, which is typically about how long my family actually cares about it.
Retailer flog Christmas like there’s no tomorrow because people blow ridiculous amounts of money on gifts for each other (and sometimes themselves), and a lesser but still significant amount of money on decorations and food. If the gift-giving part of Christmas could somehow be shifted to Thanksgiving or New Year’s Day, then within a decade or so that would become the holiday that spans 3 months of a retailer’s year.
I love celebrating Christmas; I have several storage totes full of decorations, and I literally have dozens of CDs (mostly traditional or choral renditions of public-domain carols) and DVDs. Still, I do nothing in observance of or preparation for the holiday until after Thanksgiving.
(If you think this is crazy, have you not seen things like I have seen in dreams I’ve had? Holy vision.)
So really, “Christmas” despite its name of Christ + mass is not such a good holiday in its origins. If you want to celebrate an actual holiday nicely, Then OK. Comparably, Christmas sounds oftentimes like it’s just forcing unnecessary garbage down people’s throats, too. So I highly suggest you be discerning. Test this very post to see if I’m telling the truth, even.
Each year, the holiday season lasts 2 to 3 days longer. By the time we’ve ended our lives, Christmas will have been pushed back almost 3/4 a year and begin in April.
apparently the church’s re-imagining of the crusades is working better this time.
You foolishly assume it would then be content.
Christmas will not stop until it consumes EVERYTHING.
Christmas won’t stop till it consumes all other holidays.
