And the saddest part is that Sunset Shimmer never even got to talk to Celestia. She just forgets her as soon as Super Goddess Kami Sama Ultra Hyper Sexy Extreme Now 20% More Stain Resistant Princess Twilight Sparkuru enters the picture.

It bothers me just how much they seen to actively avoid giving her any humanity. Something that stuck out to me was the bullshit lesson at the end of ACW, which was a pile of horseshit that was not a good lesson, nor it gelled with the episode (Trust your instincts? Twilight suspected Cadence because of her logic, not instincts. When she obeyed her instincts and immediately confronted her in front of everybody without gathering evidence to support her claims, she got burned). Having Celestia just spout bullshit about trusting your instincts instead of, oh, I dunno, apologize for doubting Twilight and treating her so harshly is fucking bullshit.

And let’s not forget the fact that Sunset Shimmer being an evil former student of Celestia is completely irrelevant to her character and the plot, and the fact that despise saying that she would help Twilight through her Princesshood, she did jack fucking shit during all of Season 4, with Twilight finally easing into her role on her own.

It’s like the writers are afraid that if they give her any sort of dimension, she’s suddenly going to become useless to any storyline.

What the fuck happened to her back in Season 1 and 2? She was fine there, What happened that made the writers completely forget about her?

That’s a fair point. Even though I always saw her as a character with a lot of story ‘potential’, the only time I really got invested Celestia’s character within the show was not even within the show, but when Sunset said in Rainbow Rocks,
|| filled with emotion “(sigh) Been a long time since I’ve written these words.” She pauses and finally writes outloud “Dear Princess Celestia….||

Isn’t that sad? That until Sunset, they haven’t been able to establish a strong human connection with Princess Celestia, and only just a smidge cause she wasn’t even in the movie. Just on the grounds of how much long-forgetten love for her mentor Sunset had for her gave me some attatchment.

I was REALLY hoping that when we saw a glimpse of Celestia wake up TRULY frightened by Tirek’s return, we would see some character development. But no, in the end she somehow made this just another lesson and reward for Twilight. They didn’t even bother showing us her next minute reactions after banishing Nightmare Moon, her sister, in the past, which would of done WONDERS for our investment in her character.

Or more like she’s easy to turn evil because she’s important enough in the setting to elicit a reaction but utterly irrelevant to the narrative, so it’s no big loss if she’s taken out of the story.

Ah, another fine example of the classic Evilestia with Luna as the savior of the universe.
