Okay… you can turn Angel into a 2 power Friend unlike Eagle… it’s useful in extremely rare occasions.
But that’s the point, isn’t it? Everything’s situational. Very few cards are strictly superior or strictly inferior, and even those have a place in extreme cases or when you’ve exhausted the three-of limit.
Combos change the playability of even the weakest of cards. I’d rather gain two action tokens back from Berry Dreams after dropping Pinny Lane than one from High Spirits, but that’s what combos do and it’s all situational. With “Teamwork” in this set, Berry Dreams might be favored over High Spirits for being an Earth Pony.
As of right now, with the exception of wanting to run three Eagles and three of the new Angel, there is nothing saving this Angel from being inferior to Eagle.
Berry Dreams does exactly what High Spirits does, except forcing you to pay 1 AT to draw a card. High Spirits cost 1 AT, and then you can choose if you want to pay 1 AT to draw a card.
And both Eagle and Angel works for Caretaker, and there aren’t any cards giving Angel any form of bonus. Eagle is always better than Angel.
However, those cards are only worse by themselves. Which counts, but the Fluttershy card type is a real bonus, and with the new effects of putting friends out and back into play, Berry Dreams offers genuine card advantage. Not that I’m arguing that either are great cards, but I’m counting on Angel getting multiple card interactions in upcoming sets, and those will appeal to casual players who play for flavour or for the satisfaction of card synergy/combos.
Every 3 power, 3 cost Friend is better…
It’s Like Fluttershy, Animal Team - The exact same card as Amethyst Star, Animal Leader but you pay 1 AT extra to get the next friend for 1 AT less.
Berry Dreams…… you pay 1 AT extra to draw a card, that normally already cost 1 AT to draw.
Maybe this card is meant to work with non-yellow Manes. (Then again, you have to be pretty deep in yellow to get the benefit of this card’s ability, since there aren’t any zero-requirement Fluttershys–yet.)
I meant this Angel over the old Angel. It’s absolutely inferior to Eagle unless you want to run both.
Eagle is the exact same: 3 cost, 3 power, 1 yellow
But Eagle can do free movement, and is always 3 power.
Yeah, but that’s in future sets it seems, nothing in the card reference would boost him which wouldn’t boost his better version just as well.
Likely the card’s true value will hinge on further interactions with other cards, similarly to this one getting powered up by Fluttershy, look for other cards getting boosted by Angel.
Not that it’s that likely to save it. The Eagle from Canterlot Nights is pretty amazing and fits the exact same cost.
Even the Canterlot Nights “Angel” is better. Cost 2, Supportive 2 when with a Mane of the same color, INCLUDING Fluttershy. Only plus this “Angel” has is its Yellow requirement.
@FanOfMostEverything
Rarity really won’t matter so long as it’s not an UR or a promo. Even a rare won’t be hard to obtain three of.
A rarity shouldn’t make cards better, that’s bad have design. Rare cards can be more interesting… but not better.
Of that’s how the game would be, we would only compare numbers and not effects, and also only collecting Rare and UR, not C/U.
How do the rarities compare? This is a common.
Paying 3 for possible 3 power is bad when comparing to other yellow critters. Other colour having this is fine, but yellow already have better critters with constant power.
Eagle, so much better.
