Counter-headcanon: The reason why we don’t see other draconequi very often is because Discord is an outlier in all ways. He’s interested in the lives of mortal ponies, he’s made alliances with beings outside his species, and, most of all, he’s decided he quite likes the gender binary. It’s like if, in real life, the concept of a civil war became sapient, told everyone she was a girl, and started hitting on you, personally.

Yes, but I’m sure he doesn’t tell people that, otherwise he’d have swarms of people who are either transgender, or just curious, begging him to genderswap them, and then it would just get worse from there

A more accurate statement would be he is currently male and that is probably his preferred gender but he can easily change his gender to any that he wants, including the made up ones.

Implying he can’t just make himself into whatever he wants, be it genderless, male, or female, or any combination.

He’s existed for so long and changed genders so many times that he actually forgot what he originally was. He chooses to stay in his male form because that’s how everyone knows him.

We have in fact hung out with Diinzumo at Hofius’s place to watch The Giant Mummy That Calls The Storms during an ancient GatchaCon meetup; I used to be Buzzard, and my Lovely Wife used to be Fal-Chan. My GatchaCon shirts still get high fives from oldschoolers at anime conventions.
 
JdL really would make a magnificent Katse, wouldn’t he? He’s tall and lanky as a Sequoia, and his Q/Discord smug and insouciant delivery would be a perfect match.

OMG. He actually could too. I mean, few real people could pull off that costume, but JdL did the 21st century judge, and that’s almost as ridiculous as Katse’s costume.

Q chooses to present as male to humanity, pretty much almost all the time (we have no idea about the Aldebaran serpent), but it’s probably not because he feels that maleness is a true part of his identity, because he and Suzy-Q invented that form of Q reproduction. It hadn’t existed for billions of years. (Amanda Rogers was created with normal human reproduction between two Q in human form who had sex.) They didn’t have sex, they touched fingertips. Obviously there was stuff going on behind the scenes there that we mere humans didn’t get to see, and JdL practically faked an orgasm on camera, but a species that takes several billion years to get around to inventing reproduction doesn’t need gender.
 
Besides, if Q were to manifest as female, he couldn’t be played by John de Lancie. Because I’ve seen JdL impersonate a woman. Not a pretty sight, believe you me (but a hilarious one.)

So while yes, he can choose to be either male or female, Q chooses to be male.

Actually, I kind of like the idea of genderless Discord now, I mean he is a god…

I always figured that Discord is like Mike from SHORTPACKED!; his sexuality is “whatever you don’t want him to be”.

And yet people will still be angry about that for some reason.

But seriously, it doesn’t fit his archetype or his theme to exclude on gender. If Discord has a sexuality at all, and he might not, he’d really have to be bi (or more specifically, pan; can’t see him turning down a dual-gendered person for that reason), because nothing else would fit with the concept of Chaos. But he never interacted with any other male character at all until Twilight’s Kingdom, where he messes with Shining in exactly the same way he usually messes with Twilight, and where he throws over the pony that everyone ships him with in favor of Tirek after Tirek feels him up in a dark alley. :-)
