Eurvos Morgenbrise
Lunar Supporter - Helped forge New Lunar Republic's freedom in the face of the Solar Empire's oppressive tyrannical regime (April Fools 2023).

Heaven-Sent Planeswalker
Which is why the Doctor won’t take another immortal as a companion after the Time War.
(Can’t say ever, because Romana)
Having such a constant companion that will still be there 803 years later is not healthy for one’s moral compass.

Let’s be fair, the phrase “false premise” implies that it can’t possibly be anything other than wrong, and thus, in this case, that anyone who thinks in a way other than yours must have screwed up somewhere.

Unless it’s your picture, you don’t get to scold me for thinking it might be possible (not even likely, just possible) that it was meant in a way other than how you interpret it.

Yes, but this comic seems to suggest that the feelings Luna has for Twilight are romantic in nature, and by using Snowdrop as a parallel, seems to imply that those feelings were as well.

…That was stupid, let’s try again.

Unless, of course, they’re in a position of authority, in which case responsibility for the mortals they oversee factors in and short-term planning remains necessary.

Wait a second…

Does this mean Luna and Snowdrop were a couple?

I think once an immortal got old enough… Let’s say two or three hundred… They’d reach the point where they can shrug off nearly anything, because nothing lasts forever (except them). Wars, nations, theologies, pretty much everything just blows over if you wait long enough, and they’ve literally got all the time in the world. Unless, of course, they’re in a position of authority, in which case responsibility for the mortals

Yeah, I quasi co-wrote a kinda ask blog thing, and someone asked Celestia about her love life, and to quote what I had her say:

“One must never hold onto love so hard that you crush the joy from it, fearing the moment it is taken from you. Rather, Enjoy the now, live every moment of love to it’s fullest. and when your love leaves to start of family, or their life takes them down paths away from you, you can wish them a fond farewell, and be left with happy memories.”

Agreed. Immortals would simply have a different perspective on life than mortal people would. I think the worst point in an immortal’s life, and the only time they would get that immortality blues, is during the third or maybe fourth generation they live through. That’s when they’d realize they’re starting to see the world differently than everyone else and losing people just doesn’t feel the same as it used to. It’d be like their adolescence.

I’ve actually discussed this at some length with some people- immortality will eventually require certain psychological changes to function. Basically, you become very good at letting things go. Ironically, immortals who’ve adapted will be much better than most about living in ‘the now’, emotionally, than most people, because they’ve learned that holding on to the past just weighs you down.

I think some desensitization is necessary. By the time you’re their age, with mortals it’s like humans who keep having pets. Their loss is definitely very sad, but they’re prepared for it.

Also, in real life, think of anyone who’s really old. Betty White will be 93 in a month. Most anyone she’s ever known who’s older than her, and a good deal of the ones who were younger than her? Long gone. Her husband was 63 when he died in the 80s.

Though obviously not to a Celestia level, anyone in their 80s or 90s has probably buried more people than you or I have ever known. Yet, they don’t spend all their time blubbering (Like I said, think of Betty White. She’s a comedian of all things…)

So obviously, outliving others is something people can bear and still enjoy life. It’s being done by too many people.
