if someone draws psychological torture this well, they did something wrong with the story that was supposed to be silly in its entirety. It’s called deterring from the tone, it happens when you make a character far more likable than the ones tormenting them for the purpose of comedic effect
It’s pretty much the same as that moment in Filli Vanili with Pinkie Pie, she was considerably less likable in the eyes of others because Fluttershy looked almost realistically shaken by her comic relief, one reaction that the audience both identified with and were sympathetic towards.

I know it’s very simple to trash on everyone “trashing comedy”, but it is my opinion that comedy itself should know the difference between nuisance / insanity and something more akin to torture, that kind of comedy routine belongs to late Spongebob material, or in other, in the fucking garbage..

The problem with that is how much they make Celestia a tragic character throughout so much of it. It comes off less as “not serious” and more as “Everyone’s stupid but her.”, which invokes more of a response closer to pity.

Same thing with Mexico. As much as the past governments have tried to demonize him and make us worship the “revolution” that overthrew him instead it seems like Porfirio Diaz, also a dictator, was our greatest leader.

Hell, the country was probably better off back when it was a colony than it does today.

I would genocide to have a leader like Celestia. Brazilian government fucking sucks, it says volumes when our greatest leaders were a monarch and a dictator.

Most humans would probably kill to have a leader like Celestia, and this is how her subjects pay her back after all she’s done for them?

i realized that celestia right now is basically emeraude from ‘magic knight rayearth’. her duty to her people outweighs her personal happiness to the point of suffering.

God. I hate where this is going, but I guess it does illustrate the “slave of the people” thing pretty damn well. :|

Also, I consider the sequel just a meta retcon more or less. I guess events that happened there nixed whatever happened going onto this story. Feels like a back-pedal to me.

What is a royal but a slave with a crown?
Or perhaps in this case, a horse collar.

Sean Bean had some nice quotable lines in the movie Troy when he was playing as Odysseus. But this one rang true. “Sometimes you have to serve in order to lead.”

I think Tia needs to start a purge or something a bit more heavy-handed to get the point across better. Even though I already read the fic, this is still absurd, and for once I wouldn’t mind a bit of a grimdark route as a resolution Celestia’s hatred of tea.

||Instead she swallows her pride and has to go through with the upcoming torture soon to restore what little semblance order is left. And what’s worse is she’ll be stuck sipping and “enjoying” tea for as long as she lives as a monarch. ||

Okay, thanks.

As for how this story makes more sense if you’ve read the sequel to the fanfic it’s based on:It’s revealed in the sequel that the first fic was actually a story that Twilight had written, as a way to mock herself over how horribly OCD she can be at times. It’s actually played for drama to an extent, since it’s showing just how low her self-esteem is.
