Slapstick may have been what they were going for with Angel, but it failed. It came off in all the wrong ways. Fluttershy isn’t Bugs Bunny, and Angel isn’t Daffy Duck. The situational awareness one can’t help but have when watching PYHD makes it just look abusive.

I agree that we were meant to see those situations as funny, particularly because of the characters’ expressions after getting “pushed”.
 
But much like Angel slapping Fluttershy, the comedy is lost in the simple fact that the ponies, who we like, are being hurt. Slapstick is funny when it looks painful, but you know there’s no lasting impact. The characters shake it off.
 
This comic has had rising tension, so one can’t simply shake off the fact they got shoved through a wall.

i think i know why, and spreading the word.
 
before we were supposed to tkae the violence as a joke. to get technical he just flicked or pushed them. it does not work because they are sent flying and such and there is the hwole legal question here. but i CAHN see what they were trying to do.
 
if they had just removed those moments then i think this issue could have gone better. tiwlight refusing to use her magic against those who were not going around hurting ponies directly. at the very least it would ahve removed one flaw of many.

i think that the point is that we were supposed to take the violence we saw earlier as technically not violence. flick and push and all that jazz. slapstick.
 
rarity being legitimately thrown as not a joke was taken as something that could actually harm her.
