You know what, her pendant is cracked. It wasn’t cracked in the opening scene but it was shattered at the end. Maybe it is because she fused three jewels together, maybe the end did mirror the beginning to a ridiculously close standard.
 
I guess it is still ambiguous.

Not really. She notices the Sunsets demon magic well before the rainbow spiral. The fight time seems short because it is cropped for the opening Rainbow Rocks so it doesn’t take up 5 minutes of the movie. This is done by a cut shot where the Dazzlings go outside. Timeline fits well enough, she’d have several minutes between noticing and the spiral.

But then it doesn’t make much sense why she’d of planned taking their gems, and all of this beforehand, considering how quickly the “rainbow” thing happened, and all at the beginning of the movie.  
I don’t know, just doesn’t quite make sense to me that way.

This scene is taken completely from the opening scene of rainbow rocks. The clothes, the cafe, the choreography of the fight in the background. This is absolutely before the battle, the rainbow beam out the window is not just a light show, its is the battle with Sunset Shimmer. Their clothes match, the topography matches, the cafe, everything. Also the jewel in Adagio’s chest is three times larger than the one on screen piece she swallowed.
 
It doesn’t look like much was left up to interpretation, it is actually really obvious what is happening.

Considering she only has one gem here, I don’t know about that.  
Though, I suppose it could go either way. The beauty of vague, wordless, fan-comics like this are you can interpretate them anyway you want.
 
Though, don’t forget they couldn’t summon the rainbow beam of doom that easily at the beginning of “Rainbow Rocks.” Which admittedly was a funny moment, and kinda poked fun at it’s “deus-ex-machina” status.

Pretty sure the story here is Adagio swiped their stones* and swallowed them. That gave her enough energy to turn into Superdagio, she then flew into the Equestrian magic that stopped Sunset. It reformed her, she returned. Aria and Sonata are happy she is coming back normal but scream when they realize she’s reformed and their stones are gone too.
 

I think this takes place after the movie, considering they no longer have their necklaces here, and look upset.  
Did Adagio salvage a piece of her’s?

Well, I must say I am rather surprised that Adagio didn’t try this before.  
The way I see it, there are two ways this can go about.  
One is that the stone ends up like Ms. Fortune’s Life Gem, and Adagio manages to digest it, therefore enabling her to utilize its power at will on a nigh-unlimited basis…  
Or it will act more like the Philosopher’s Stone, and she will be engulfed by the its power and ultimately become a slave to it, losing near everything that makes her who she is.
