I really hope we get some more exposition on the Nightmare Forces, because I really loved that concept. It strikes a perfect balance between the “Luna was possessed/tricked into becoming Nightmare Moon” and “Luna turned evil on her own” theories that people were arguing between. The Nightmare Forces were a corrupting influence, twisting Luna’s thoughts and giving her the power to act on her dark impulses, but everything she did was still ultimately of her own volition. I’d like to know more about where they came from.
@dynamicv
In the animatic it’s far more apparent the transformation isn’t what Luna expected, having a look of horror when the dark energy surrounded her.
And it seems Nuhfer will build on that. Luna gave in to the Nightmare, but she was also tricked, she didn’t originally want to go as far as her possessed self did.
So basically a followup/prequel to the Nightmarity Arc…
I’M SOLD!
Yeah, it’s my favorite arc and I Actually liked the concept behind the Nightmare Forces. I hope this one covers all questions that arc left, because it really needs more expansion.
Alternatively: it was the Nightmare Forces, and Luna made a pact with them to get their power. Celestia’s defeat in exchange for the two of them ruling Equestria in darkness sounds like something a jealous, bitter princess would do.
@Masem
Could be a good opportunity to clear up some confusion about what the Dark Forces are.
If it were up to me I would retcon them to be something that Nightmare Moon created or allied herself with while on the moon. They never really explained where they came from, everyone just assumes we are meant to interpret them as what turned Luna into NMM, but that doesn’t fit with the rest of the comic and the show.
@PonyPon
Keep in mind this is Heather, who wrote the Nightmare Rarity arc. So this might tie back in to how that story resolved, more of the Nightmare Forces, etc.
@PonyPon
It’s from a time before she first appears in the series, that counts as part of her origin, doesn’t it? We already saw the first part of her tale in season 4 + the pilot.

I think we now know who the Steven Butler of this series is.
Sometimes an orb is just an orb.

What is the black orb that surrounds Luna in the season 4 premiere?

Yeah, but what new information could viewing that time period give?
I mean, she has to exit that stage of her life exactly how she entered it.
I would think an origin would be the events that built the character, not past time spent as that character.

That doesn’t sound like an origin to me.
