“And why not? It worked in Las Pegasus!”
Yeah, while I understand some are tired of “forced-diversity” by the overly-P.C., guilty-white Tumblr crowd, (some go as far as insisting on making one, or two of the Mane 6 “transexual” to be even more P.C. sometimes) or how “cliche’” darker-skin Twilight is getting, I agree with you.
People can draw the pony humanizations however they want. I’ve seen both good & bad Twilight humanizations regardless what skin-color they are.
(Also, people forget there are “black nerds/bookworms” out there to. Your race doesn’t signify what your personality is.)
You might be right, considering her VA is. ;) I recall, even some “Jewish” pony pics raise a li’l drama sometimes though, as some hate mixing IRL religion with pony. (As it’s a touchy subject, and most bronies seem to be atheist.) I will say the “Hanukkah Rarity” pics are cute regardless, I don’t care what anyone says.
Also, “darker-skinned” humanizations aren’t the only thing that generate drama. I’ve seen people complain over Pinkie Pie being drawn “chubby,” and such before.
Zecora’s “hair”, if anything, is straighter than Twilight’s, and as she was Twilight’s mentor it can be assumed she did a good deal of studying too. So, yeah, I don’t really see that as a reason to bar someone from drawing Twilight black. The point about facial structure is largely valid, though some people stylize or simplify their humanizations enough that it’s no longer an issue; and, as Beau Skunky points out, it’s tricky to depict those differences and keep it from looking like a racist caricature.
In all honesty, I don’t care what race someone decides to use when “humanizing” a pony (partly because I don’t really care for humanization to begin with, I’m sure), and I largely don’t care what their motivation is, even if it’s as base as wanting to feel superior to people whose humanizations aren’t sufficiently diverse. (If they want to display for all the world that they’re a stuck-up jerk, let ‘em.) I just don’t like it when people say that character so-and-so must/mustn’t be a certain race. We’re talking about making human beings out of multicolored, magical fantasy ponies, after all. This ain’t an exact science.
Besides, if you really wanna get down to brass tacks… Twilight’s Jewish. ;)
While that kinda has a point about facial structures, sometimes it’s kinda hard to do that without making said characters look kinda stereotypical. Some “diverse” MLP humanizations end up looking somewhat “racist” ironically, because of some artists going overboard with certain “ethnical” details on characters. >>675585
There’s an artist who does a very nice Tumblr focus on Vegeta and Bulma’s domestic life from DBZ. For some reason, the choice of the Sayian Prince tanned skin tone caused idiots to question the artist’s choice of skin tone. The response of perfect:
“Dude, I have converted Vegeta to Judaism and allergic to peanuts… and the thing you’re most worried about is his skin tone.”
Most times, if the skin tone is bothersome, it’s sometimes the viewer than the artist’s choice of a color palette.
Just a little remainder from the past…
…I want to kiss you right now.
<yakko> There’s a shocker. </yakko>
>pasty, artificially white complexion
>”ONLY good looking one in this picture”
OK, yeah, it all comes down to opinion and personal preference and stuff, but oy vey, I’m beginning to doubt we’d agree on any humanized drawings. Aside from just not being fond of that category as a general rule; that we agree on.
@The Frowning Pony
I love you so much right now. I’m confused as to why you’re using such a cute and cheerful icon in order to perform your admin duties, but still, I love you so much right now.
It’s like black twilight offends /mlp/ so goddamn much they won’t even parody it.
I’m not even sure what any of that means or is going for.
Yeah, no, because I’m not a dick or take it (too) seriously.
What people miss a lot from the complaints about humanized images is that a lot of people aren’t complaining that a character isn’t this or that way because they’re racist, but because that character is their waifu/tulpa/fictionkin and representations of them that differ noticeably from their idealized headmate version triggers them.
(not saying that there aren’t a load of racists floating about, nevermind generic trolls)
But I bet you don’t go around to pictures with large breasts and announce “I don’t like large breasted women”. The user I was criticizing is using their preferences as an excuse to just spread some hate.
Wow, no.
Swearing’s always been OK.
“This image is fucking awesome!”, always ok. “You’re all batshit crazy”, also OK. “You’re a faggot, eat shit”, not OK.
It’s real simple.
But
herp-derp admin power abuse
.I hope you’re not saying having personal preferences over certain body part features in regards to attraction is “racist”.
Because, like, I don’t find huge boobs attractive. Or hooked noses. Or joined earlobes. Or sky-blue irises.
Sparging over it or dropping “all animals are actually white!”, on the other hand… well, if that’s not racist it’s at the very least really damn dumb.
Whatever.
I have a feeling you’d assume it regardless.
I’ll admit, I kek’d.
And if someone says “I’m not a racist but,” you can all but guarantee they are about to say something racist.
Or it really isn’t.
Shiny is adopted! It iiiiis TOTALLY noooooooooooooooooooooooooot creepy!
Usually when someone says something isn’t racist it really is. Usually.
