hmm I thought it was from world of warcraft, horde/alliance language barrier. When you played Alliance and read Horde players saying lol, it translated to kek.

Then again, Cake/mispell and 4chan sounds a lot better reasoning.

Then why dont they just say “lol” instead?

That’s like asking why 4chan doesn’t act like normal, reasonable human beings.

Of course that answer is “for the lulz.”

To be more precise, “KEK” came from Korea and literally mean “LOL”.
It’s first major spread is from the good ole’ days of StarCraft where Korean players would type ‘kek’ instead of ‘lol’ due to their Korean keyboard.
And as i remember, World of WarCraft is what ‘kek’ is known of nowadays. If a player on the Horde faction type ‘lol’ in /say, it will show up as ‘kek’ for players in the Alliance faction.
I also read somewhere that ‘kek’ literally translate to ‘lol’ in Orcish (damn Blizzard and their antics XD).

That is very interesting information. :) Thank you very much for sharing it
