It is more complicated than this. I started doing fan art, started to do pixel art professionally, realized that I will stagnate as an artist if I don’t step away from ponies. It was so fucking embarressing to do this professionally while basic human anatomy mystifies me. I learned so much about art ever since I realized it was best to broaden my horizons. I worked with realism and imitated the works of masters, I have the confidence to say I do take artwork very seriously as I work pretty hard to get where I am.
 
Fan art is fun, but I had to teach myself the joy with working with subjects people will generally agree is a lot less exciting. I felt a lot more grown up doing nude figures, seeking out repeating shapes that makes or breaks a design, rewriting the way that I see colors and be able to do the flavor of shading I have wanted to know how to do for years… do you get where I am coming from?
 
Though, by juvnile and naive, I was mostly referring to my mentality of art from before I decided to branch off and broaden my horizons. IMO to put it into perspectove, I consider this piece was a lot less juvenile than the uncannily “real” ponies that I tried to paint from a while ago. This feels a lot more controlled than my older stuff.

What’s funny is years from now, you’ll look back on dismissing fanart and having done something for the sheer pleasure of it, even if it was just simple fanart as juvenile naivety as… well, really juvenile and naive of yourself. It’s funny how we go full circle as we age and mature, and (hopefully) learn what’s really important in life.
