It took you five seasons, Dash, but my god it was worth it.

Only for some. Twilight and Rarity have different actresses sing for them. Andrea Libman sings as Fluttershy but not as Pinkie Pie.
Some actors can do it– usually those like Ashleigh who already come from a singing background– but voice acting and stage singing are actually two different skillsets; it requires a lot more vocal toughness to be able to sing for hours at a time when cutting songs than it does to do character voices under most circumstances, and without a lot of rigorous training it would just ruin most VAs’ voices to do their own singing. Tabitha wasn’t kidding when she said that Simple Ways nearly broke her; it was extremely hard for her to contort her voice with overlapping accents like that, especially with so much shoutin’ goin’ on.
For some characters, yes. But for Applejack and Rainbow Dash, Ashleigh Ball both voices and sings.
Whatever they’d do, I’d just like to see Applejack or Rainbow Dash make a Hey Ocean reference.
I’d kick holes in Hell’s gates to hear that happen, but I remember Crieber saying at a VA panel once that it’s actually really hard to sing as Apple Bloom, because she’s a great actor and AB as a character can’t sing worth squat. It’s still baffling, though, why they don’t make more use of the fact that a third of their mane characters are voiced by an actual professional singer. Also wondering why none of the writers have given Rainbow Dash a line like “Hey! Ocean! Take this!” right before plowing into the water at Rainboom velocities.
“Raise This Barn” qualifies as a lead vocal, at least. Still nice to hear her cut loose in what’s probably the most rock-oriented song they could get away with in the show. (Though I admit I’m really hoping for Applejack to have the lead vocal in an old-school Broadway-style musical number.)

Ooh, good point; I’m tempted to casually drop a tweet on that subject to Jayson Thiessen and/or Meghan McCarthy…
@Kolbjorn
Also, this must happen.
was about time :p
Sure thing~ ^^
I just said it doesn’t matter how you see EqG, it was still her, doing the character, singing.
It counts.
The song counts as a song she did, you can’t deny that.
With or wiyhout canon, it’s more of an S1 Dash song. The Mane Six in EQG reflect their early selves. Human Twilight clearly hasn’t yet found friendship as she’s a paranoid Crocker trying to find High School Fairy God Parents. Dash is more selfish and arrogant than modern pony Dash, so on and so forth.
So, another reason I don’t really count it, not compared to this song, which is both modern pony Dash and plot-related, rather than a side song leading to other things.
I don’t care about repeating things. I don’t care about repeating things.
I’m aware, you said so already.
You know what I mean. Let’s not get into a discussion on word crimes.

@Registered Anon
That’s not what “canon” means. The word you’re looking for is continuity.
I consider EQG to just be a separate canon from the show.
Eh, EQG is considered non-canon as far as the show staff are concerned, so that’s what I go by.
Awesome As I Wanna Be kind of counts. But I wouldn’t consider it non-canon. It just happened in an alternate universe.
@lasty
I’ve seen some of it (Up to around halfway through Season 3) and I think it’s alright. But it definitely won’t ever get as big as Friendship Is Magic.
Not a single one of those was a solo song to herself, except the last, which doesn’t count for a multitude of reasons, not being canon being a big one.
