If they’re sharp and pointy, or prone to breaking into sharp, pointy things, they can be obstacles while being very small. And given the nature of mazes, two points that may seem to be very close spatially might require significant navigational skill to actually link via a path that can be traversed; that is, assuming teleporting isn’t possible for some reason.
That’s just a section of the crystal catacombs. I plan on drawing a lot more pathways and entrances to allude it to being more “cave like” in later panels. Crystals are there to just look pretty.
