@DocMadfox @TexasUberAlles Missed this ep due to work, finally saw it. Had some great elements in it, but when people say the whole ‘round robin story writing’ thing is one of the show’s chief flaws…yah, it’s clear Polsky had a good idea but he really shouldn’t have also written it.

I found this funny. Why can’t anyone here take a joke or enjoy a laugh at someones opinion even if it’s different from your own?

The episode was pretty okay. I liked the big guy, but the CMC’s answer to his problem was pretty dumb. Yes, he misinterpreted his mark, but dang it, so did they.

It does seem pretty grim at first blush, but all along he only wanted to be a part of the rodeo; if he’d said that his dream was always to be a top competitor and win every event and such– if he had in fact shown any competitive nature at all– that would make his eventual fate kinda awful, but he was all about the love of rodeo in general, and seemed okay with being a clown if that’s what it took to be in the middle of it. I think they might have fixed some of the questionable appearance if they’d played up more of the “talent for making folks laugh” angle, maybe with a line or two like “…And it would-a been purty funny an’ all if Granny Petunia hadn’t almost been squashed by the barrels” to put it into context.

Eh, it wasn’t a great episode. The new character fell flat for me, and while I enjoyed the CMC’s antics Troubleshoes’ cutie mark disturbed me. It saying he should be a clown when he had no prior interest in being one and resulted in him living in misery until any form of acceptance at all was a net gain for him is kind of a dark and depressing thought. Braeburn’s slapstick was ok, but the last minute redemption and AJ’s punishment for the girls when half the problem of the episode was her fault kinda ruined it for me. I can see liking the episode, but it was just kind of poorly thought out and meh for me.

FWIW, I think it’s one of the lower-tier episodes of the series myself. But I’m not going to start insulting the tastes of people who enjoyed it. It’s not like we’re discussing Plan 9 from Outer Space or something.
