too soon to tell (unless ND does something to contradict omega?) though IIRC omega had a line about athena being the last olympian. too little time between ND and omega for that to happen?

The whole thing between the black saints and the silver saints took place IN A FREAKIN SINGLE DAY, in the manga of all places! Not to mention right after it only takes a day to fight off the Gold Saints.

Kurumada prior to Poseidon had no concept of time passing or just didn’t cared. The fact that they left a gap of 25 years is a lot compared to what they usually go for where it could easily be just a couple days or months.

Besides, Saintia Sho is messing the continuity already by making it happen at the ame time as the original story.

I wouldn’t say they necessarily disregarded that issue, since the series takes place 25 years after the end of the Hades arc, and it’s heavily implied something happened between that battle and the first one against Mars which took place 13 years earlier. There’s plenty of time for Seiya to be stuck in a wheelchair and then recover, not to mention we don’t know whether Omega or the even the official anime continuity takes ND into consideration, so whatever happens to the characters in that installment probably wouldn’t clash with what was established here.

That’s part of the mythology, Athena when first came out of Zeus’s head was as much a Saiyan as Ares if not worse. Bare in mind, Ares is meant to represent the Carnage of War, giving up on your most basic instincts for the sake of the thrill and glory of combat. Athena is the smart war, attrition, long term planning etc. Combine the former traits with the latter and you have a monster that could easily overtake the Olympus if given the time. Which is why she was made to drink from a cup to turn off that blood-thirst. Where in Saint Seiya have we seen a cup being associated with Athena?

Clue, think Next Dimension.

didn’t omega imply that athena was monster (in terms of ass-kicking) in the age of myth? then again, pallas might be doing some embellishing (them spending time together was a cool down period for athena between ass-kickings).

the cloths modifying themselves between users and genders is an interesting theory. that would explain why something as distinctly feminine like the andromeda cloth can be used by guys (and how less of that cloth would be used on girls?)

My personal take on that is that the cloths adapt to the user’s body and gender. And since the original Athena (Who may or may not be as blood thirsty as Ares if that part of the mythology also applies here Google Athena and the cup for further details) was reluctant at women serving under her, she ordered the Lemurians or hell, have direct influence into making them to reduce the protection on purpose and it wasn’t until Saori (In Omega’s continuity) came in and took the chance of remodeling the cloths into something that served as good a protection (Yuna and Pavlin for instance, even Shaina’s cloth covers more of the body.) due to her upbringing having her being more closer to her Saints and mankind in general than in her previous incarnations.

Now I know what you’re thinking, Sasha worried about her Saints as well, yeah but there’s a difference between feeling empathy for the lives of the people serving under you (Like any decent military general would when reporting the casualties) and another one being directly involved with those people and seeing first hand struggling.

Saori was there in the battlefield, she wanted to take as much punishment as her Saints not just because of how she came to view them, but also because she saw Earth as a responsibility strictly behest on her shoulders and Saints being forced to fight a war that they didn’t asked for. Whereas Sasha only took part directly in the final battle and was mostly in the background serving as more akin her title of goddess of war only intervening when necessary (She was the only one who could really help Sisifo because she was the direct cause of his fears and worries). It’s an interesting case since Saori is more in touch with her role as protector rather than goddess, whereas Sasha was specially educated to embrace her title of goddess and being groomed to see the Saints as the ones that protect the Earth directly.

when you think about it, the aquila cloth being downgraded to bronze kinda upped it’s wearer’s usefulness (compared to marin, yuna did have a greater impact. to be fair, she’s part of the main cast, marin is supporting cast at best)

actually the pallasite war had a nice twist into having the superiority in numbers work to their advantage. the more time the golds and main bronze saints waste on beating up the mooks takes more time off athena’s lifespan and spreading their forces also stretches the saints line too thin.

It only worked for the Red shirts, didn’t made any difference starting with the Second Grade Pallasites except when the plot demanded the protagonists to be against the wall or to show a new move (Not really complaining about that Atomic Thunderbolt. That shit was awesome and Seiya haters everywhere cringed which only made it sweeter).

@Mega Rapidash

Plus one on the Kiki argument, never saw it that way.

In regards to the blood, my guess is that, following the trend of Cloths = living beings, some repair the damage better whereas others accumulate damage far worse and need more care to repair either themselves or via Lemurian. Here is were the wearer bond could also come into play, a good synchronized Saint using his cloth can expand their regeneration rate as opposed to someone who only treats it like a weapon/just a protection (I’m looking at you Shiryu). And then have this to come into play when the Cloth changes form after being “revived”, getting even stronger along with it’s user as they grow together.

This is the potential ideas this series has!

have you encountered talk about both seasons having their priorities switched? by that i mean some people think season one was just basically a rehash of the sanctuary arc but with new characters while season two was an original story but it had too much callbacks/pandering to fans of the old show (at the expense of the new characters).

and seriously, when kiki shattered dione’s chronotector, no one ever thought of “your chronotector has gold plastic syndrome/already dead’ caption?
Mega Rapidash

@QuasarNova
Well, they replaced the whole staff completely between seasons; that’s probably what caused the series to undergo many changes in direction. I found the Season 2 to be significantly weaker than the first, among other reasons, because of that.
I wouldn’t say he’s an exact carbon copy, but that he strives to be just like Mu because he might feel guilty for not being able to save him - that’s my theory, at least. That said, there are a few subtle differences between the two; while Mu took his time to repair the clothes carefully, despite that costing the Bronze Boys more time, Kiki spent almost all his cosmo energy to finish the job as fast as possible; more often than not, he’s seen wearing a smug expression that contrasts with his late teacher’s perpetually serene aspect, even making a few witty remarks from time to time; and as I mentioned before, the nonchalant way he destroyed Dione’s Chronotector with one finger and then proceeded to curb-stomp him and his soldiers shows he’s more eager to show himself off and mock his opponents than the previous Aries Saint. Despite his attempts to emulate Mu, he’s proved himself to be a little more impatient and mean-spirited than him, even if that may not be clear at first sight. At least, that’s how I interpret his character.
Also, I hope you’are referring to the 2 times Kiki repaired the main characters’ clothes during Season 2, because the one time he did in Season 1, they were definitely not dead, and blood - or rather, the cosmo energy flowing through the blood stream - is only needed in the case the cloth loses its life after sustaining too much damage. Sadly, many fans still mistakenly believe blood is always necessary to repair a cloth, when that was never the case; in the original manga, Mu fixed Seiya and co.’s clothes right before their confrontation against the Gold Saints wihout using a single drop of blood.

Considering that you can’t use the same trick on a Saint more than once, wouldn’t it make sense that, specially the gold saints, having different techniques is not only encouraged but mandatory? Moreso, Cloths are meant to be living beings, correct? They have the memories of their ancestors with them, so you would think, the current wielders have access to those memories which is why not only they can perfect an attack from previous generations, but also practice a different variant of it precisely so not to repeat the same attack.

Seiya and co. did it, yeah! I’m as surprised as you guys but they are the ones that have created new techniques to defeat their opponents (The Sui Seiken is a result of directing all the strength and speed of the Ryu Seiken into a single spot for example).

And the steel saints part was perhaps were they screwed it up the most, finally someone calling the gods out for using people as personal puppets in a struggle that really is between them and mankind is just collateral. That’s a great idea they could’ve used! Have some of the steel saints to create a rogue faction taking down both Saints and Pallasites, The new generation taking down the steel saints trying to appease them while the old guard due to not only having more experience but also more powerful, take on the Pallasites who are the bigger threat.

I always thought that Athena’s army was pretty well balanced, since the lack of numbers are compensated by the amount of power that every gold saint has pound by pound. When 1 of your elite army can take down at least a 1000 of red shirts, numerical values are thrown out the window.
