Like…I get that they might have made Tree Hugger a girl to downplay the romantic overtones. But they kept in almost all the overtones. Discord spends the whole time acting like a jilted lover, which doesn’t really mean much (it’s Discord). But Fluttershy got…a little too friendly with Tree Hugger. Right down to the vacant daydream-staring.
 
It was hilarious, but I’m surprised they got away with it. I’m basically considering Fluttershy to canonically be not entirely straight.

This. She was made into female to avoid the romantic implication of Trehugger and weaken the FlutterCord vibe. You could imagine that Discord turning green after she touch another guy would have a very different meaning.  
This way rest of the audience can interpret this as innocent friendship while shippers can still enjoy the fact that Discord is really possesive of her. A total opposite of Twilight Kingdom episode where he replaced her for Tirek.

The writers made Tree Hugger a girl to avoid TreeShy romance suggestions, but people ship it anyway. I have nothing against lesbians, I think they’re cuter than hetero couples, but I already ship Fluttercord and it’s my first and favourite MLP ship.

Yeah, like the artist tried to match his head shape but when you humanize characters you don’t really use animal head shape to make it accurate.

Best humanized Discord I’ve seen. And I haven’t actually seen any humanized smooze yet but, best humanized Smooze I’ve seen. I don’t know what it is about them, they just look spot on.
