Description

Parcly Taxel: After seeing how the cutie map in Twilight’s castle is sweet enough to notify you of any problems in far-away places via your cutie mark I was wondering whether to have something similar in my house (which is a castle in a way). I don’t like having obvious magical artefacts in my house, though - I prefer plain and simple mechanical instruments for the doors and such - so I just made a new crown and saddlebag for myself.

@FanOfMostEverything Parcly’s crown merely doubles as a molecular model of 15-crown-5; it does not contain the molecule per se but is instead made of platinum and gemstones.
 
The crown ethers are cyclic ethylene oxide polymers and their variants; because of their large ring size they can chelate various cations in their “holes” - they are most commonly used to characterise unstable anions as their alkali metal/crown ether salts. 12-Crown-4 (4 units) chelates lithium, 15-crown-5 (5×) chelates sodium and 18-crown-6 (6×) chelates potassium or hydronium.
