Growing up on a farm outside actual town, with a mother like Fluttershy, Summer Wind was growing up with strong love for nature. Despite being rather strong colt and perfoming all needed work at Sweet Apple Acres, Wind has never been a farm pony at heart (unlike his younger sister), he reminded more of Flutters, being “mommy’s son”. Summer Wind formed a very strong bond with his mother since early childhood. They understood each other easily, and Wind would do everything to make his mom smile or to protect her if needed.
There were other sides of his attitude to Fluttershy as well. So, he couldn’t bear any kind of offense against his mother, which sometimes lead to extreme overreaction. If something like that occured, normally gentle and even-tempered Summer Wind immediately lost his temper and entered his own state of uncontrolled anger (call it “Summerrage”). While it worried his parents and friends, Wind himself didn’t pay much attention to these bursts of anger, until one day he accidently broke tooth of his friend Rainfall (daughter of Rainbow Dash), who only tried to calm him down, while he was in his rage state again. So, only after he hurt one of his close ponies, Summer Wind understood that something is wrong here, and began working on himself in this aspect.
His mother often took him on a walk in Ponyville’s outskirts, and this glimpses of wilderness always fascinated little colt. No wonder that his dream was becoming a naturalist and collecting comprehensive information about all types of animals of Equestria (and possibly other places as well).”
As much as I like Fluttermac, it’s not that popular as you might think, really.
Mind you, it’s one of the very first straight FiM ships ever.
To be honest, yes I can. Different personalities may not work in the long term, but neither do personalities that are too similar. Usually, the best, longest lasting relationships are the ones where the partners balance each other out, that is, they have enough similarities to have a connection, but different enough to keep the relationship interesting.
To that end, I believe that Twimac actually makes the most sense. Twi and Mac are both intelligent, focused ponies. Macintosh could probably handle Twilights crazy moments, and in turn she could help Macintosh with perhaps being a bit more vociferous. It all balances out.
It’s not necessarily similar personalities. Fluttershy and Big Macintosh have personalities that would be happy spending the rest of their lives together. We see these characters as people, and want those people to be happy. Can you honestly tell me that, if they got married, Big Macintosh and Fluttershy wouldn’t be happy long-term?
That’s not to say that all similar personalities are like that. Two ponies with the personalities of, say, Rainbow Dash is probably unstable long-term.
Yeah, as much as I don’t want it too, today’s episode indicates that they do listen to the fans pretty closely.
Of course, two more questions I have are, why do people want it to be canon so much in the first place, and why is it so important for ponies with similar personalities to paired up?
Well that logic worked for Lyrabon, so who am I to argue with you.
