Same here, I was actually shocked to discover it was Rated R later on when I wanted to get it on DVD. Like I said though, the Rated R moments are very brief, so it could easily be edited on TV into a PG-13 movie.

Another movie like that I liked as a kid was Eddie Murphy & Arsenio Hall in “Coming to America.” The PG-13 version of it, used to air all the time on family channels.

Didn’t the show confirmed that Rainbow in liquid form was spicy hot? So imagine it getting into your eyes.

I know that all the colors of the rainbow combined make white, but covering Fluttershy in white fluid is just making the upcoming jokes too easy.

Who knows? lol I guess anything “went” back in the “edgy” ‘80s & ‘90s. (Nowadays, could you imagine the backlash if a Rated-R movie was adapted into a children’s show?)

Y’know, my parents despite being very conservative christian people actually never “censored” anything for me, or my sister when we were kids. They let us watch PG & PG-13 movies. They even let us watch a few R ones like “Terminator 2.” (Though my sister had to tell me when to close my eyes during certain parts, ‘cause back then I couldn’t handle some of the violence. Looking back at it though, it wasn’t as violent as some other R-rated movies.)

I also loved “Police Academy” as a kid, (and even some of the sequels) but sense I always saw the “censored” version on TV as a kid, I was never aware it was originally rated-R for a long time. (It had some brief female chest nudity, and a few lewd jokes in it. It also had a bad guy saying a racial slur in it, which wouldn’t fly nowadays. Both things are quite brief, so otherwise it would’ve just been a PG-13 movie.)

I imagine it goes something like this:

“Hey, you remember that show/film X? That was cool, right? Man, I wish I could share that with my boy/girl/kids. But, you know, too adult, heh. Wait… I know, let’s retool it for kids! Make it a cartoon! We can even cut back on actors and writing that way!”

It’s funny how often kids’ media references R-rated movies. Tiny Toons referenced Terminator, Garfield referenced “Godfather,” amongst other things. (And let’s not forget the “Big Labowski” ponies in the show.)

Hilariously, some R-rated movies even GOT turned into kid shows, like the “Toxic Avenger,” and “Police Academy.”
