We learned Copenhagen Interpretation in school because it was easier to teach. I can say looking at the mathematics does make QM easier to understand since a lot of these conclusions come from math. For example, this cake is just demonstrating quantum superposition, which is the sum of all nonzero wavefunctions of the cake.

Oh, yeah, so in case you didn’t catch it, be aware that that poster is probably kinda nutty. I don’t think he actually made that video, so much as uploaded someone else’s as his own. Ugh.

It’s probably another case of people misunderstanding quantum mechanics to construe some sort of spiritualism out of it. It can happen very easily when you know a certain amount, but not a whole lot, thus the phrase; “Sophomore” exists, meaning “wise fool.”

“A little learning is a dang’rous thing;/Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring.” (Source)

When the video says “observer,” there’s two things to note:
  1. an observer doesn’t mean a sentient being or anything like that. In fact, quantum state collapse (“being observed”) happens all the time in the sun, leading to quantum tunnelling and the sun’s hydrogen atoms fusing more easily - and there’s nobody observing the atoms there. An “observer” really means “the universe at large,” which, yes, is quite vague and isn’t entirely clear. That’s a big issue with the standard Copenhagen interpretation of Quantum Mechanics, it’s pretty fuzzy on how it works (what constitutes the “big world” and the “quantum world”?), and it’s why I prefer
  2. The Everrett Many-Worlds interpretation actually does away with that way of thinking about it entirely. Although not exact, the best way to explain it in less than a year of lecture is that alternative universes exist for every probability outcome, and if you observe a particular outcome, that’s because you’ve “branched off” into that alternate universe. A misconception to avoid, though, is that the other “branches” aren’t as “real.” They are, and they’re just as valid as the one we’re living in. They just don’t interact with eachother.

    …It’s… Complicated.

The important takeaway, though, is that it doesn’t mean you’re a resurrected ancient Mesopotamian spirit. Does it mean reality is very strange? Yes. Can you still believe in some sort of metaphysical weirdness if you want to for other reasons? I don’t see why not. But does Quantum Mechanics prove it? No.

    I hope I haven’t led anyone astray, here :q

Decent explanation of the experiment. But the source of that animation, “What The Bleep Do We Know?” is utter horseapples. Considering the founder of the organization that made it claims to be the reincarnation of an ancient Mesopotamian spirit. :p
