Considering I never had it die on me, yeah. It’s pretty useful.
He also never accidentally shot you in the back like Ian.

I found Dogmeat pretty useful and he only ever died on me once and that’s because he got swarmed by three Albino Radscorpions, the sneak thing did bug me though and sometimes when I would try sniping he would walk in front of my scope. He was a tank though so he kept the enemy off of me and he did a fair amount of damage despite only being able to bite I also liked his retrieve items function so yeah I liked Dogmeat.
I hardly ever use Rex in Fallout NV I mostly use ED-E.

Not to mention he had no clue when the player was trying to be sneaky and would blow their cover. Well at least he’d pull all the aggro but it’d still be annoying as fuck.
Thank the heavens they made companions aware of the player wanting to sneak in FNV.
Wait, was it useful in Fallout 3? I found the dog long after I had started fighting Super Mutants, at which point it seemed kinda silly. I mean most of my enemies had miniguns/rocket launchers, so it always seemed like the dog stood no chance…
There also was the issue of ally AI not being terribly malleable. So a character who runs right up to enemies and potentially blocks your shot never really seemed ideal…
You haven’t played 3 or New Vegas have you?
seriously, when did the dog become symbolic for Fallout? it was mostly useless in 1 and 2
it will come out when the second half of season 5 starts.
