Yeah, this is pretty much the theory I run on when I write Diamond.
Yeah, but the problem is that the writers, of both the show and the comics, seem to latch on to the idea that these two can’t be seen without some involvement of the CMC. It’s because they were designed to be the bully archetype, so therefore, their ‘victims’ must be nearby to use and abuse and thus receive comeuppance by the end of the story.
Of course, the biggest offender of this is that I’ve seen this type of character in several shows, and they have always been given an episode to show that they are still human. That they aren’t always mean and can change if given time. Of course, most of those bullies were in high school and thus older. If any character, Diamond Tiara honestly reminds me of Angelica. She was stuck up and liked pushing the babies around. She was an antagonist of sorts.
She does resemble Daffy in a way. {Daffy Duck is my favorite Loony Tune.} However, if we were to compare them, this would imply that Diamond Tiara hates the CMC because she’s jealous of everything they are. That’s kind of why Daffy hated Bugs so much. Bugs hogged the spotlight, was the favorite, everyone wanted to see him and no one really cared for Daffy so Daffy tried to get rid of him to get the spotlight and adoration that he was denied. Could be an allegory to how Diamond’s father isn’t around enough to love her and she doesn’t have any siblings to help either. All she has is Silver Spoon….sad.
The cover and the artwork were the best parts of FF16. The story was little more than a CMC story told from Di and Silver Spoon’s POV and a shoehorned-in IDW OC. It’d been better if they’d scrapped the Crusaders’ angle entirely and made the story about what Di and Spoon do when they’re not harassing the CMC’s. The cover shows Di and Spoon dressed up and ready to play tennis; what if the story had been about them facing off against a pair of snooty fillies from Manehatten or Canterlot who viewed the two of them with the same contempt they (or at the very least Diamond Tiara) have for the Crusaders’? I’d have liked it a whole lot more, that’s for sure.

No, I love Daffy - that’s why I try to write her like Daffy. She’s actually got a fair bit in common with him: the ego, the swagger, the short-temper, the greed, etc. The difference is that all those traits are played for laughs with Daffy and played straight with Diamond. Thus, people like Daffy Duck, but hate Diamond Tiara. Think about how contemptible and unlikable Daffy would be if he were the same character, but if he were gratingly annoying as opposed to funny.
True, but again, it seems they might become good. And I haven’t seen those comics. Is it the friendship forever series or what? Also, true but I don’t think Babs hurt them as in knocked a tooth out or what ever. If anything it was just pranks and being a bigger ass hole then…well Diamond.

I assume you don’t like Daffy Duck? To be fair Daffy is more ego and selfish..at least I think. I watched the Luney Tunes Show and kinda forgot if they stayed true to his character or not. Also, one thing I forgot to say is we have to remember she is just a filly. She isn’t a big baddie like Tirek or Starlight who want “blood” sort of speak.
And yet many of those same fans are now crowing on about how
StalinStarlightHimmlerGlimmer not only is redeemable, but should be redeemed and made a member of the mane cast. If anypony is a complete monster who must be destroyed, it’s her.@Beau Skunky
I usually write her as a Daffy Duck-esque Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist. The cardinal sin with Diamond Tiara is that she’s not only bad, but also annoying. It’s much easier to like an objectively terrible character if they don’t get on your nerves.
Yeah, I guess it is getting a li’l old, and I wouldn’t mind seeing a different/nicer side to her personality. “Flight to the Finish” convinced many fans she’s a “complete monster,” and “must be destroyed.”
Still, even if the show never does that, some fanartist have managed to make Tiara a bit more likeable. Such as the one who does those adorable/funny “Tiara & Dazzle” comics. Tiara’s still kinda a brat in them, (so she’s not to OOC) but is at least more likeable in ’em.
It was disappointing for other reasons, too…

I seriously hope they don’t go that route. The conflict between the two groups of foals got old in Season 2 - it should’ve ended around the time of One Bad Apple. The only way they were able to keep it going was by making Di have zero standards whatsoever in Flight to the Finish - unless they plan on making her try to break Scootaloo’s kneecaps, there’s really no way they can make her and Spoon any worse than in that episode.
Unless they perhaps tease them for not having “cool” cutie-marks, or perhaps find other things to tease them about. Though, they mainly teased Scoots’ wings, because they wanted to sabotage the CMC, or make Scoots want to drop out of the contest. (And yeah, many fans consider them “irredeemable” due to that, so it would be nice to see a “nicer” side to Tiara for once.)
That would actually be an interesting concept. (Though, she did let Babs go pretty far with picking on the CMC.)
Also, it’s never been stated Scoots is “crippled/handicapped,” Scootaloo’s remark about “what if my wings never grow?” seemed to imply she’s more like “undergrown,” or something rather then handicapped.
oh ok then, well since you put it that way, I gotta say maybe. I mean if the CMC DO get their cutie marks, then DT and SS really can’t be jerks to them anymore.

Agreed, How I see it, maybe Diamond Tiara’s episode will have a new bully and DT likes him, but the new bully goes to far like, really hurt the CMC physically. This in turn will make DT step in and stand up for them. Granted, we have the lowest blow from DT making fun of Scootaloo, but maybe her line could be “Yeah, I made fun of a handicap pony, but I WILL NOT ALLOW ANYPONY TO PUNCH A HANDICAP PONY!”
You know “evil has standards” trope. granted at least she is more redeemable then Porcina from g1 MLP
Well, they looked “happier/nicer” on the new one, but I wouldn’t put to much thought into it.
I wouldn’t mind an ep’ kinda focusing on Tiara & Spoon, it’d be nice to see another side to them besides, “lol blank-flanks!” (I was kinda disapointed the “Tiara & Spoon” comic recently kinda failed to show any redeeming qualities for Tiara.)

huh what do you mean I seen it to, but they were standing by each other with their arms around each other. Sorry, I have only really seen the S5 poster, so if the other season poster had them looking mean than I understand.
And the S5 poster seems to suggest they’re no longer antagonists.

Yeah, but in the end they remain friends regardless, which is actually a cute & positive thing about these two.
For all we know they probably get along better then the CMC. (Wouldn’t that be ironic?)
I could imagine them pushing each others buttons; heck, even the Crusaders have been shown to do that on occasion.
I kinda like the idea that they occasionally “bully” even each other.
It’s a shame this is one of the only times we get any hint of Silver Spoon having any sort of character whatsoever.
I never said they shouldn’t XD. I like the idea of the two coming around, especially after their Friends Forever comic where we see even they’re internally suffering from their attitudes.

Speaking of that comic, it’s another example of Silver Spoon being shown as the ‘softer’ of the two. Does she still need an attitude adjustment? Yeah, but she’s slightly nicer and even apologetic to the guest character
The only time she has been I recall was when she “applauded Granny Smith,” but aside from that she’s been no different/better then Tiara in my eyes.

Agreed, I don’t like that bias either. Plus, Tiara has had a few rare “nice” moments to. Like when she complimented Pinkie Pie, (in song) and she & Spoon were a li’l nicer to the CMC in “Twilight Time.” Sure it was mostly for brown-nosing, but at one point she even put her hoof on Scootaloo’s shoulder all “buddy-buddy”-like, and they were trying to help make the CMC more “popular” with the other li’l ponies. So at times they did seem to genuinely enjoy the CMC’s company. (Even though, they’d probably never admit it.)
And why shouldn’t both of them be redeemed? It’s just another example of this fandom’s bias against Tiara. Winston Churchill had a quote that sums up the fandom’s attitude towards her:
“If Hitler invaded hell I would make at least a favourable reference to the devil in the House of Commons.”
The same rule seems to apply to Diamond Tiara. She could try and save the Cutie Mark Crusaders’ from Lord Tirek himself and the fandom at large would still root for Tirek.
It probably all comes from how she’s been shown sometimes as the lesser of two evils, but yeah, if you ask me any kind of redemption plot would need both of them coming to head, not just Silver trying to convert Diamond to the light side of the force XD
