If I had to guess, I read somewhere that they wanted to water down MLP and make it like Care Bearish…or something like that. Anyway, I think due to this being the 80s, angry parents would have thought this a to “strong” and so the spanking Reeka part was just to make a “funny”

That’s kinda what myself, and that critic, were - ahem - hitting at. The whole pickaxe in and goo shooting everywhere thing. Everything else was…yeah cartoon violence. Except for…whatever the heck it did to Draggle. Was it trying to shake her off? Knock her out? Spook her? Rough her up a little maybe (seemed that way after it slams her into it’s…neck? Upper body?) And how does holding it actually do anything? Does it throw the phlume off balance?
Though Reeka getting spanked will always seem a little random. I mean, does this thing have a spoon it keeps just for spanking witches? Or maybe there’s some water in a small hole offscreen and it waters itself?
…I’m thinking about this WAY too much.
Well they were more or less talking about how they shoved a pick into the thing and that gooey stuff started shooting everywhere.
