Yea, I never said “Don’t copy ever”, cause goodness knows I copy other people’s art quite often. I never post them, but I still do it cause it’s an amazing practise to step into another artist’s shoes and see things from their eyes. And hell, people copy my stuff too from time to time and I feel honored. Just give me credit and we’re all cool.
What got to me in this case tho was that copying a pic down to every last detail without asking permission or giving credit is apparently ok. Sure, in this case both artists apparently came to an agreement on dA, which is good, but still. Just because they didn’t trace it right off, the mods can’t even remove the pic on the original artist’s request. I still don’t think that’s ok, but I promised I wouldn’t argue about it further, so I won’t. I just want to clarify that in no way was I saying that the act of copying in itself is wrong, cause it isn’t. Its claiming the pic as 100% your own that is. That is my own humble opinion.
So you don’t want any artists to get better then? How did you learn to draw, by being “original”?
Also how do you think collages work? You cut up photos and make a new image. No art should be “sacred” and untouchable, people can take inspiration and improve upon anything and it furthers pony art as a whole. If someone copied a pose I did I would be fucking over the moon, since I know my drawing inspired someone else to make something awesome.
Hello, it looks like you’re trying to start an argument after it already ended.
Firstly, don’t go spouting “As an artist..” crap, all 3 of us are artists, so that doesn’t make your opinion extra unique or special. It’s also surprising that you tried to start an argument even though the artist of the original clearly stated they don’t care anymore:
@3apples
You can ALSO find the original redraw here:

and on the source you can clearly see he apologised for not asking first:

As for your argument, you claim it’s perfect down to every last detail, it is not, it’s even drawn in a different style, so while the pose and scenery may be very similar, it’s different enough to be considered a work of its own.
“Just because they didn’t trace above the original directly, or because they resized a few parts, doesn’t make it any less art theft.”
Uh, yeah it kinda does; even if it is very similar, actual effort was put into it. If it was a direct trace (even with parts adjusted slightly) then yeah it’d be the same, but it’s not, it’s purely reference, 0% trace, I mentioned this because if it was otherwise, we’d be able to delete it from derpibooru upon 3apples’ request, it had nothing to do with my opinion, it was based on hard evidence.
“What you’re saying is essentially that its ok for me to go to any picture and without the artist consent copy their image down to every last detail, and its perfectly ok.”
Don’t try putting words in my mouth. I am against tracing and close referencing unless it’s purely for practicing purposes, and even then i’m not fond of it as a method of practice. It IS perfectly okay to trace or closely copy a work without consent IF IT IS FOR PRACTICE, the lack of consent merely means you shouldn’t go sharing it or posting it anywhere, as it then won’t effect the original artist in any way, but if you do then you’re in the wrong and are likely gonna get called out.
Again, this problem was cleared up here:

You can go there if you want to argue about it.
Don’t make me have to lock this comment section.

“Closely referenced” to the point that they even copied 3apples’ leg style (the squish in her “knee” for example is an exact copy), the eye shape, exact pose and scenery. Just because they didn’t trace above the original directly, or because they resized a few parts, doesn’t make it any less art theft.
What you’re saying is essentially that its ok for me to go to any picture and without the artist consent copy their image down to every last detail, and its perfectly ok.
As an artist I dunno how to feel about that tbh.
i’m ok with this now, already let it all out lol
Well, it would seem they deleted it from DA, you must have scared them away, although it’s still on tumblr.
I don’t know, it’s not really a trace, and while based on your work it’s different enough to be its own work, so I don’t think we can delete it.
its mentioned on the deviant page “ to get me back into the drawing scene, I redrew this image here: fav.me/d5voryz”
also wrote
“You are not allowed to use this artwork in any way, shape, or form unless you ask me for permission first.
You must also credit me as the original artist. Don’t be an art thief.”
that is what actually makes me uncomfortable, doing this thing without asking, then ask people not to do so
this one
Which image?This one
Hmm..
It doesn’t appear to match up significantly in any way, i think they just closely referenced it.
