I suspect that by the end of the season each main character will have at least 1 episode totally focused on them + at least 2 with them paired up with another main character, there is room for that as well as a few CMC episodes. This is discounting the 2 parters of course

Yeah I agree. Applejack hasn’t really gotten that kind of development and it seems like an issue that the many writers of the series struggles with, which I can understand. They kinda put Spike in a similar boat and he is usually labelled into three usual roles in the show:“The one who’s Greed for something causes the structure of the plot (Secret of My Excess, Just for Sidekicks), The sympathetic character who feels like he’s useless and towards the end does something important to gain confidence again (Dragon Quest, Power Ponies, Equestria Games) or just the guy there for a cliche comedic effect (Handful of Episodes) I hope that somewhere down along the line, Spike and AJ can be used in a better capacity and setting that will give more layers to their overall characters. As a fan of both of these characters, that is what I would love to see.

I agree, though like I said, I think she’s been making some progress this season, and if you disagree that’s fine. Also with AJ, in my opinion, she suffers from the same thing. Though I imagine you like her for reasons regardless of her development.

I think Fluttershy is written like shit because of the same reason you think AJ is written like shit.
 
Fluttershy’s episodes are largely based around the same damn thing every time and all of her jokes and “cute” moments are based around the same thing her episodes are based on - shyness. I want more episodes like Hurricane Fluttershy where we see her persevere through her shyness as opposed to just sit back and wallow in it. She is always shy by the end of the episode and all of the development she’s gotten from her numerous, numerous shy episodes just feels like a complete waste of time due to the complete lack of character progression present. Their best idea is to force her into a friendship with a popular character who never stops talking so he can try to pick up the slack she brings to the group.
 
I want to like this character. I want her to be well written. Everything feels like such a waste with her, though, because I feel like this is the same goddamn character from the first time I saw her - and I cannot say that with any other mane 6 character or even Spike, for that matter. I’m not going to enjoy something just because I want to enjoy it and this show is going to play having strong characters as it’s trump card than I expect a bit more development than what we’ve seen over 4 and a half damn seasons from the one character.

I know. And I do find Rarity more interesting and well-written than Fluttershy, but I think she’s far from shit. And so far this season, she’s making strides to be better, at least in my opinion.  
Applejack on the other hand, she’s a character I respect more than like. She’s like Spike. Great character potential, but the writers don’t seem to know what to do with her. The only one of the mane 6 that I feel is disinteresting is Pinkie. Too much comical relief, and not enough moments like in Pinkie Pride.

I hope so. I’d enjoy watching this fandom squirm over not getting their dose of shit ponies like Fluttershy and Luna in favor of characters who are actually well written <3 It’d make my heart grow 3 times in size.

Rarity, if it were up to me, the entire season would be episodes about you.

She ain’t gotta try hypnotizing me to want the remaining half of Season 5 to be all Rarity episodes XD
