Also, I was wrong; it turns out we do in fact know all of the actors who would’ve played the main protagonists of “Bio-Man”, and the Blue Ranger of that pilot also had the name “Billy Cranston.” Apparently, some of the actors in question actually had footage of the pilot in question (it was in fact an adaptation and not a dub), but they don’t know where it is now, which really sucks.
Mega Mare is so powerful
I feel my end is near
I wonder
If there’s a chance I could change her mind
So she could join me here.
What Mega Mare and my brothers don’t know
Is this Flash is all for show
‘Cause inside
There’s nothing there and there’s nothing to me
I’m empty and I’m hollow!
Right, Philippines.
I thought that dub was done in the Philippines, where it is extremely popular, along with Hikari Sentai Maskman (which had its memorable local dub, to this day). Well, I’m Filipino, and some of the first 15 were my childhood.
According to one article, Haim Saban himself, while on vacation, became aware of Super Sentai upon watching scenes from Bioman. He waited, wanted Kousoku Sentai Turboranger (13th SS) first to be adapted for English speakers, then failed. Then came Kyouryuu Sentai Zyuranger (16th SS), while at the time Super Sentai experienced a slow decline in its own home country.
Yeah, it was an English dub produced in Malaysia. I think a few other early Sentai had English dubs there (or were at least released there and were incredibly popular there).
Bioman was also Saban’s original attempt to bring Sentai over to the West. All we really know is that the pilot was called “Bio-Man,” we know who would’ve played the Red Ranger (I forget his name, but he revealed this information in an interview a few years back), and that the name “Zack Taylor” would’ve been used for the Green Ranger of that series. We don’t even know if it would’ve just been a straight dub or if it would’ve done what Power Rangers eventually did (film new footage of American actors and then have them dub over stock footage), and no footage of that pilot still exists today in any form.
Well, the majority of the subscribers here are North American. So, they have zero to little knowledge of the first 15 Super Sentai shows.
Heard of the English dub of Choudenshi Bioman?
And her flawless design.
I wonder
What would she think of my blue suit
And this helmet of mine?
Hey, Mega Mare
Join my side
And let me stop this moment in time.
You’ll be mine
Forever.
