No they aint man. I see characters sit next to one another often in many scenes besides just these two. Also last I checked, friendship is emphasized in mlp. Think what you want and ill think what I want also.

I remember seeing the bow tie kid paired up with the orange haired nerd girl. The blue guy ship started in the second movie.

They are just friends. Remember, sometimes friends are just friends, and not some kind of political/social agenda, and likewise, a children’s cartoon is exactly that, a children’s cartoon, which we should appreciate for what it is instead of trying to project our “adult” desires and needs onto it. These characters are, like, 15-16, just remember that.
