It’s wild how much acceptance the general population has taken on in ten years but it’s not as widespread as media will make it out to be though, of course. But I’ve worked with some old, very blue collar workers who were really chill when they found out about my love life. At worst, since they were friends, it was a point of banter/teasing.
 
To get back to the comic: I’ve seen interpretations of the general population being indifferent/supportive and Canterlot being quietly judgmental about it, like everything else that ‘the lower class’ does. The elite probably can kick any people out of the Gala for ‘causing a scene’ and just throw stuff they don’t like under that rule.
