“Love” is a pretty strong word for that, it was merely a teens crush, if Twilight was so madly in love with sentry she wouldn’t left that easily without even saying goodbye to him in a first movie.

Yeah I think that’s the joke, they didn’t seem to know what to do with Flash Sentry in the latest movie so if they’re going to make another one using him for self-parody might be fun.
 
It would be especially funny if it was just a subplot that the main characters mostly ignored.
