Background Pony #9610
Fascinating background, based on how Canterlot is located, and after the vegetation and the terrain, this place is located with a village to the north, in the opposite direction of Ponyville which is somewhat lower with more open surroundings. This just shows that there are many suburbs or smaller towns around the capital itself. This is not so surprising, since a town high up on a mountain with a low-productivity population must be able to feed on surrounding food producers living in many towns around where food and other necessities are sold to Canterlot. Much of the food production in Ponyville ended in Canterlot. And we know from the battle between the Mane 6 and the Terrible Trio that much of the land under Canterlot consists of fields and pastures that are heavily cultivated.

The airship here shows that there are no good communications to the north, so Trixie and Starlight had chosen a smaller road because the map and the show showed that the larger roads go in a northwesterly and northeasterly direction. The use of airships and hot air balloons in Equestria, where it is possible to map and control wind directions, has been constantly aired, but little has been studied in the show and the comics, although it is clear that they play a much larger role. We know from the comics that balloons are used for transport over short and medium distances, and that airships are used as passenger transport. This is partly confirmed in the show.

With railways, aircraft and few suitable roads, there will thus not be such a great need to maintain smaller roads that may be privately owned or subject to the local council’s mandate - therefore we see that this dirt road is not so well taken care of. Wheel breakage and the fact that the wheel falling off will then be a common problem if there is no good quality of the wagons that would travel long distances. Trixie`s carriage seems to be well used.
