Jesus, people, just drop it. You’re going nowhere with this argument, just agree to disagree.

The “party Ponyville style” was just the icing on the cake that confirmed her fears about revealing her friends. It was obviously the main reason, but hardly the only one. If she was willing to lie about Rainbow Dash, she would probably not want all of them to reveal themselves.

Even in the case of the RD thing, though, you’re criticizing a character for making a mistake that is the source of learning a lesson in the end, a.k.a. character development.
@amantes
Clearly, though, she’s a selfish bitch who doesn’t want to be associated with him due to her actions before learning the lesson and receiving the character development at the end of the episode though, amirite?

Please point out where I was criticizing Rarity as a character. All I did was point out something that did not make sense to me. In Suited for Success, she’s fine sending her friends to the gala in the terrible outfits they desired. In Sweet and Elite, she’s unwilling to disclose she even knows them. I never said Rarity is a bad character because of any of this. I never blamed anything on her. I simply pointed something that did not add up in my eyes. But for whatever reason, you have to be overprotective of her even when she’s not being attacked. Stop white knighting Rarity, she’s already a marshmallow. (Relax, that was just a joke. Don’t strangle me.)

No, I just don’t like bullshit. If you were to even read what Rainbow Dash said:

Rainbow Dash: Hey, wait up! We’re your friends! I’m sure they won’t mind if we check out the party too! C’mon, you guys! Let’s show them how to party Ponyville style!
Rarity: Oh no!

Then I’m pretty sure that, unless you wanted to bastardize Rarity, of course, that last bit is pretty easy to interpret as the main reason she said “oh no.” I’m sure she would’ve been nervous but accepting had she introduced them in a way to where they were displaying politesse and tact as opposed to partying like they would in a rural setting in a garden full of people she was trying to impress. That last bit would give anybody in her shoes a very good reason to say “oh no,” seeing how they behaved in their own party.

Even in the case of the RD thing, though, you’re criticizing a character for making a mistake that is the source of learning a lesson in the end, a.k.a. character development. The character development in the end was well earned as a result of realizing her own mistakes and miscues throughout the episode and then going forth of her own volition to correct them. I remember very little hesitation when she was put on the spot and asked if she knew them - she even called them her best friends.

If the first example answered your question, you could at least acknowledge that.

The hell are you talking about? I said it looked to me like Rarity wanted to pretend she doesn’t know her friends. In the second example, all her friends were about to reveal themselves to her “high society” companions, and Rarity was in dismay about it. The way I read that, she didn’t want to have to admit she knows them, the same way she lied about who Rainbow Dash is, and was ashamed to admit she was from Ponyville. I didn’t twist anything, it’s just how I interpreted her reaction. It’s like you are throwing a wild accusation at me because you are just keen to start an argument where it’s not needed.

Also, if you’re not making an argument, then you really have no need to twist things out of context to make what you’re saying look better, hm? You would just post what supported your claim and have been done with it. Instead, though, you decided to misrepresent what actually happened in order to make yourself look better and more knowledgeable, I guess. If it really was just you supporting your claims, then you wouldn’t have even needed to try and pull what you did after that.

I focused on that because of two reasons - the first being that I see no argument to be made about the RD thing that you brought up and I can even accept that as being right, so I saw no real need to respond to something that I can accept. Unless you want me to pat you on the back for supporting your own claims, of course.

The second being that deliberately misrepresenting what actually happened in order to make your own argument look better is really just wrong on a variety of levels.

I never got the impression that she was trying to hide that she knew them in S&E. She was just bouncing back and forth between parties because they were happening at separate venues at the same time ._. Where did you get that idea?

Rarity: My friend Rainbow Dash talks about her all the time. She says what Fleetfoot lacks in size, she makes up for in speed.
Silver Frames: And who is this ‘Rainbow Dash’?
Rarity: Uh… [gulps] Why… she’s… she’s the… the Wonderbolts’ trainer, of course.

Rainbow Dash: Hey, wait up! We’re your friends! I’m sure they won’t mind if we check out the party too! C’mon, you guys! Let’s show them how to party Ponyville style!
Rarity: Oh no!

I recall the Smile song being leaked before the episode, but I wasn’t aware there was a convention version.

Bucked if I can find a link at the moment, but I recall Ingram saying in an interview that he often does extensive rewrites on song lyrics for various reasons.

Both Daniel and the writers have said this numerous times, though in the overwhelming majority of cases, this consists only of changes in wording, to make the lines scan and fit the meter of the song, but not changes of content altering their meaning. Daniel inserting anything completely original into a song, or even writing one from scratch, is the rare exception to the rule (though it does happen).

For example, compare the final ‘Smile’ song from the series to the original version that Amy Keating Rogers has performed at conventions. Her version is a lot more straight-forward, simpler in structure, and (to be perfectly frank) a bit repetitive - but the core of what Pinkie is expressing, and even the majority of the exact words, stayed exactly the same. Some parts were reworded and some rearranged to fit the greater variation and scope of the music, and the spoken-word interlude was excised for time, but in the end it’s Amy’s words moulded to Daniel’s music.

GG, arguing about dresses for over a day. Does it really matter if the dresses are shit for the gala? Ponies are gonna see Twilight with Celestia and think “That’s what a known pony wears.” Even if it looks like dogs bollocks, but i’m pretty sure the dresses for the Gala were pretty great anyway.

When she was trying to conceal she made Twilight’s dress, she was also trying to hide she even knew the rest of the mane6, and at a less major event too. The gala dresses are arguably a much bigger disaster that she would not be able to hide from anyone. And she was still worried about making a good impression, with Blueblood and all, and how part of her business is making dresses for the gala. Just feels like a small continuity error to me.
