Imgur is an image hosting website which has the option of publicly posting uploaded images with a comment section underneath. Just like Derpibooru, Reddit, Tumblr, [whatever]chan, Facebook, YouTube, et cetera, it has its own particular culture of shared quirks, running jokes, and memes. The Confused Travolta meme is one of them that’s currently popular; another recent popular meme was editing a serious-looking Inspector Javert from the 2012 Les Miserables movie into other scenes.

It’s a scene from the Tarantino movie Pulp Fiction, where John Travolta’s character is looking around in confusion; someone edited a GIF of it into a different scene, and it promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground memed itself out. New edits have been popular for the last couple of months on image sharing/hosting site Imgur.

I really don’t get this meme. Can someone explain?
