Same here friend. ^^
times have changed since you were a kid Anon
Close relationships perpetually having the possibility to grow into something deeper. You mean like… real life?
Any ship in a show like MLP is a bad. If this actually happens I’ll be a sad day for all of the friendships made over the course of the shows history.
I know maybe 2 other people who agree with me, but I miss the days when there were cartoons that could stay just about a group of friends and as a kid I didn’t have too worry about the show changing to something romantic.
Not really, there’s worse ships out there.
It’s a depressing thought to think that this is inevitable.
Congratulations on your get. double 42 even.
Lord Banos would be proud.
I salute you, good sir!
So the big ‘wrong’ is, in fact, shipping characters that aren’t expressly confirmed to be in a relationship and/or porn being made? That’s the thing you’re campaigning against here, even while saying the fans can do whatever they like and you’re fully aware it doesn’t make a difference? Your great fear is that having two characters kiss would be ‘handing a green light’ to those who aren’t hurting anything with what they’re doing and would do anyway?
Your exact words:
You said you think it’s wrong to have fictional characters (if only the primary cast) have a relationship because it ‘allows the argument’ that shippers and porn makers, who do this anyway, can go ahead and do what they do anyway, which you also said isn’t hurting anything, but now they’d be able to point to the show and say that that particular relationship is canon, and that’s bad somehow.
Yes, of course the show can exist fine without romance, it’s mostly done so all this time. Will anything be hurt or ruined if primary characters find love, as Sci-Twi is attempting with Timber Spruce (which, you’ll note, has not become a focal point)? No. Will the fans’ behavior change if they do? No. So I’m still not clear on why it bothers you so much if you’re not just homophobic.
See, the reason I would guess that you are is that your objection and the argument supporting it doesn’t really make sense, and bigots tend not to directly say what they’re thinking, but justify it in as roundabout a way as possible with the kind of mental gymnastics that, they believe, give them a ‘valid’ reason to hate something for ‘some other reason,’ thus hiding their bigotry so that people might actually listen to them.
Maybe I’m completely mistaken (and trust me, I hope I am), but that’s the vibe I’m getting from you.
Yeah, Imma unsubscribe to this comment chain now. Let’s just agree to disagree on whether RariJack will ever be canon or not.
Yeah I’ll admit I’ve kind of gotten away from my original point.
Wow.

And for the second time you have misinterpreted my argument. Nowhere in my statements do I say that homosexuality is wrong.
The inevitability and idea of control of pornographic content in any community is another can of worms. Let me focus On another aspect of my personal perspective.
My statements are regarding the idea of well made entertainment being able to exist outside the idea that having romantic relationships develop in your main cast in any show is an inevitability.
My argument only falls apart if you believe that morality is not subjective. If you believe that morality is something that everybody can agree on then my argument falls apart.
I’m not talking about the morals of society, or the morals of the show, or the morals of other fans. Fans can do whatever they want and usless they directly come to me with an argument I won’t pass along my thoughts of what content they create.
My argument is simply this, My Little Pony as a franchise can exist and succeed without the use of romantic relationships as a focal point.
A separate argument of mine is that as far as entertainment for parents and children goes I think that there should exist equally shows with romantic relationships as a focusing point and ones without.
Seriously, I’m with @Background Pony #D309 here. You’ve got a practically nonsensical definition of “Wrong” here.
@Background Pony #D309
A thousand times this (though I don’t see how lewd fanart fits into the idea or could possibly be inspired by something like a romantic relationship being featured in the show).
Besides…
@Paradox_Brony
Okay, first thing: The show has already done this. It’s the entire freaking reason for which Flash and Timber exists.
Second, yes, those examples were horrible and terribly written. But this is exactly where having a romance with two protagonists would fix the issue. The problems with Flash and Timber is that they’re barely characters, hardly given any characterization and basically just designed as love interests (hence they’re little more than that), so they don’t hold a candle to characters like the Mane 6, who have had year of characterizations and development. But put next to one another, they’re equals, and in cases like Applejack and Rarity, they’re already proven to have amazing chemistry. So much so, I’d argue them becoming a couple is basically the logical next step at this point.
Multiple reasons, the main one being that it’d do a lot of good to a minority in desperate need for representation. Not to mention, it could serve greatly for development for the characters.
The whole idea of something being morally wrong is that it causes harm to someone. If no harm is done to anyone or anything, be it in short or long term, how can it be morally wrong? There is nothing ‘factually’ or ‘technically’ wrong about homosexual relationships, let alone with relationships in general. This is common sense.
Do what? Ship fictional characters? Have actual relationships themselves, straight or otherwise? Make lewd fanart? What part of any of this do you seriously think is so wrong despite no one getting hurt? What kind of logic are you even operating on to be so vehemently opposed to something like this?
You seem to have an idea that the only way something is wrong is it causes harm. No, an individual can be morally wrong, factually wrong, or technically wrong and it doesn’t cause harm to anybody but the individual is still wrong.
I say it’s wrong to modify the main cast to be in a romantic relationship because it allows people to make the argument that “If the show does it, what’s wrong if we do it.”
And on an entirely separate note personally I think that it is frustrating when every single show that tries to be entertaining, intelligent, and well-made has to eventually move to the practice of romantic relationship with in the main cast of the show.
I think the children deserve just as many well-made shows that are just about characters being friends and living their lives. As they have shows with characters in romantic relationships trying to live their lives.
You say “What’s the harm in having it.?” I say “Why do we need it?”
