Did you stop watching the show? If you did it, why?

I was in a situation where I had some conflicting feelings about the show. For example, I didn’t like too much the season 6 (I only liked 4 episodes out of 26) and I really didn’t like some decisions made by the writers, animators or the producer. I stopped watching the show after the first episode of season 7 and I didn’t want to watch more.
 
I have some reasons:
 
-I didn’t like that the show was being more focused on Starlight Glimmer. For me, she’s the typical overpowered unicorn socially awkward with no character from a mainstream anime with overpowered characters. She’s not very interesting for me. And it’s ironic that, after episodes such as The Crystalling, No second prances and A hearth’s warming tail, where she said she wants to redeem herself, she did the complete opposite thing in Every little thing she does. And it’s not like she was crazy like Twilight in Lesson Zero. She was doing it like she didn’t even care, at least that was my impression. And after watching Celestial Advice, I thought I had enough.
 
-The dangerous changelings and Chrysalis were actually multicolored deers with alien eyes and fairy wings. I don’t get it.
 
-Pinkie was likeable until season 3. After that, she’s obnoxious in almost every single episode from then on. It’s a pity, because she was my favourite character in the whole show. For me, the last great Pinkie episode was Pinkie Pride. The rest is just an excuse for her to be annoying and shouting. At first, she was the element of laughter. She was happy, likeable. Now she’s obnoxious, she’s like the element of random or something like that (I didn’t watch it, but there’s one episode of season 7 where Pinkie was… “melting” or acting like Flubber. This didn’t feel like Pinkie Pie).
 
-The writers were changing the personality of the characters so they can have the story they really really want. For example, I know many people enjoyed Tank for memories, but for me the whole episode was just Rainbow Dash destroying Cloudsdale because this is supposed to be the only way to have action scenes.
 
I’m not sure if there are some people like me, who stopped watching the show. But that doesn’t mean I’m affected, mad, sad or something like that. I don’t hate the show. I still like drawing these characters. Actually, I want to see that big movie. That looks much more interesting than the season 6 (let alone season 7). As long as the movie is focused on the sixth main characters.
 
So, did you stop watching the show for different reasons?

I haven’t stopped watching completely, but I have skipped a handful of episodes. Pretty much what you said, change. Not that I’m opposed to changes but I don’t agree with a lot of the recent decisions by the show staff.
 
The season 6 finale. I’m forever bitter..I miss the old Changelings and at this point I’m praying they don’t send Chrysalis into a void. Fuck “King” Thorax.
 
Flurry Heart. I mean, I would have been completely fine had she not been an alicorn. Being an alicorn doesn’t really have any meaning anymore it seems. Like, the way they’ve been handing out alicorn status makes the role seem trivial. I could write a long paragraph on why it doesn’t make sense for Flurry to be a natural born alicorn.
 
Glimmer. Sigh…look, I’m really trying. But once I dislike a character it’s hard for me to go back on that. I’m just trying to be a reasonable “Starlight hater”. Though both sides have their shitposters.
 
Season 7 has interested me very little. I already skipped one episode this season and a lot of the synopsis we have are just…meh. I already plan on skipping another episode in the future.
 
I skipped the season 6 finale after I read about what happened in it (thanks for airing it early UK :T ). After that I was just done with the season. I didn’t bother with Where The Apple Lies or Top Bolt.

I did for a time, though it was more due to real life not leaving me much time to watch the show. I almost stopped watching during season 2, given how awful it was. Thankfully, season 3 was much better.

Most of my reasons are the same as yours, but there’s also the fact that the character interactions just aren’t entertaining anymore. They use to be my favorite part of the show, but now they’re just bland IMO. I feel like the newer show writers have little to no idea on how to properly write the mane 6.

People whining about flaws. There’s this dude on DA who puts up polls for “biggest sin” every time a new episode airs.

Pinkie, the element of random….absoulutely this.

ye. at s4. it was the blandest the show had ever gotten.
 
for example and because this comparison can be drawn, say what you want about s1, the way I see it, it was earnest in its innocence and sincerity. It wasn’t mind blowing or anything, it was just That and only that. S4, how do I even explain the bad in it?.. It wasn’t all terrible, I’ll first explain that much, because the few great episodes were truly great, but the many other episodes, I mean, I think they were the most artificial stories ever told by this show, the likes of Owl’s well that Ends well.  
It just felt like I was constantly watching visually represented synopses of what was to actually happen in the episodes, as opposed to the actual events, it all felt very artificial and void of the colorful personalities of the m6 and with some of the most generic for kids TV Show dialogue…
 
but after that, I think even s6 as bad as it was, still did give it all an honest try and didn’t try to play it safe. it’s why I’m watching it again with some renewed vigor. Episodes feel fresh, characters aren’t forced into Really stupid episodes, just so they can each have X Number of Episodes this Brand New Season of MLP, more characters are given even more spotlight than ever before, which is very smart of the direction it is heading might I add, the only thing left to be worried about is the skill of all new writers. It could turn out bad, awful, or it could be great and that’s all fine by me, really. I feel some excitement from this uncertainty and I’m genuinely curious as to how it will go.

What you said regarding s4 applies to how I felt about s2. That, and s2 suffered from a terminal case of Mass-Effect-2-itis in terms of endless faffing about and not going anywhere.

for me, I don’t think that the same applies, because s2 had the most personality of the m6 exposed on screen in almost all seasons of the show. Whatever faults it had, I honestly can’t be bothered by them.

I stopped watching the show cause I’m too lazy to watch them. I don’t have much of a problem with Starlight and in fact I think she’s kinda cute, but like I said I’m too lazy to start watching again.

Laziness was my second reason.

Skipped like a third of season 6 for no discernable reason, maybe decreased interest and other concerns in life, but have been back to watching since the S6 finale arc.
 
Sometimes you kinda move on in life but then again not really lol.

Another is that they make the creepiest faces that get turned into annoying memes on this site.

I certainly don’t watch it as religiously, I guess you can say, as I used to. I used to always watch it on Bronystate (is that still around?) every Saturday, Now I just can’t be bothered. That cuts into my game time.

I haven’t watched any of the newer episodes since Season 7 episode 3. I didn’t “quit” watching the show but I’m taking a break from it so I can watch some anime shows. I might start catching up on the show soon but I have no idea when.

Yeah, this really is the season I stopped watching every episode…the Fluttershy “animal sanctuary dream out of nowhere” episode was the nail in the coffin. Now I pick and choose if I’ll watch an episode…interests change and the show is not what it used to be.
 
Maybe the movie will be amazing and revitalize the fandom and Megan McCarthy will come back and put the show back on track…maybe M.A Larson will come back. I dunno…
 
I’ll stick around until the end, but not as fanatically.

I’m not really sure what you mean by Megan putting the show back on track. it had a bit of a season arc, but that wasn’t anything special, just a lot of the same old dressed to look more important.
 
Compared that to a previous certain idea, of having an entire season devoted for NMM/Luna in all of Season 1? That would have been something.. maybe even better than what we got.
 
 
I’m not saying anything, I just don’t get the Megan hype.. I always saw the hype and train, but never the rails.

Yeah, it had a story arc and you felt like stuff was progressing steadily.
 
Now it’s all very discombobulated and the characters have finished their goals and it’s just all stale now.
 
Discord’s no longer relevant.
 
We haven’t had a new big bad villain since Glimmer…just reheated Chrysalis leftovers.
 
And Rainbow Power is forgotten entirely.

I find it funny how people wanted a recurring villain, but now that we’ve got one (Chrysalis) suddenly that’s a bad thing.

you know, as much as I want to say you don’t want him back, there may be Something there worthwhile with him.
 
the worthwhile thing about him being Scorpan. and that could be pretty neat.  
well, in theory anyway.

If it was so worthless to him, then why did he keep it for all those centuries?
 
That’d be a great “armor-piercing question” if Tirek ever came back.

I retract my statement, as my interest/faith in the show has been renewed thanks to A Royal Problem, Perfect Pear, Discordely Conduct, and even the Yak episode [iffy, but I enjoyed it]
