Twilight has always been shortsighted, having characters with flaws is not a bad thing. Also how do you know about all of this if you didn’t watch past the first 5 minutes?

I knew exactly what to expect the moment Twilight said she wanted to bring Starswirl back – 44 minutes of her trying to fix her own cock-up.

Is that a bad thing? As long as the characters learn and grow from it I don’t see what the problem is.
 
Also only 22 minutes were spent fixing it as the first half was build up.

Considering they beat the evil, saved a pony, taught Star Swirl a lesson, brought back a group of legendary heroes, uncovered masses of history and artifacts, discovered more about the elements of harmony and the cutie map, saved Celestia and Luna’s mentor…
 
…yes, I do.

Wonder if we will be seeing Starswirl or any of the Pillars in season 8.

When it’s a cock-up that could potentially doom Equestria, then yes, it is a bad thing. And unless Twilight faced serious repercussions for it, it will continue to be a bad thing.

If you’re talking about Star Swirl, a central point of the episode was that he was full of horseapples. And even he eventually admitted her actions were of benefit, before they found out a way to save the elements.

Really this is one of the most beneficial things Twilight has ever done, in terms of net benefit to Equestria.

I don’t care how beneficial it was. It was still her fault that the Pony of Shadows was let loose. She had no way of knowing what sort of “net benefit” she would really be bringing when she set Starswirl free. All she was running on was “Jurassic Park syndrome” – forget if we should, the point is that we can!

That’s honestly one of Twilight’s flaws: When she’s confronted by something mystical and amazing that she has the potential to learn from and study, she throws caution to the wind and just does whatever it will take to get that thing in her grasp. Her compulsion to learn often overrides her sense of danger or common sense.

Nah, just explains why she’s like that. Fortunately it all worked out in the end, but yeah, of course I won’t condone Twiggles unleashing an ancient evil on the world just to see her idol. But Equestria is for better or worse a realm of magic, where someone’s character flaws can turn dangerous or even fatal if they make the wrong choices at the wrong time. I’m sure all of us on this site have our own personal flaws, some of which I’m sure would cause tons of problems in Equestria should we be suddenly transported there. Fortunately for us we live in a mundane world where when we f**k up generally the worst that happens is we hurt ourselves. It’s just how life is. People mess up. Twilight messed up. Fortunately she had basically the pony Avengers behind her to fix the problem.
