I loathe the Ponies got the Beat as an opening. It is out of place for these reasons: It doesn’t fit the rest of the movie songs in its musical styling and it was not written for the movie but everything else in the movie was. Also, who the heck sings it, certainly not a character in the movie, again unlike all other songs in the movie. It is so out of place it makes me upset that someone thought this was an acceptable artistic decision. It is about as bad as that damn hungry hungry hippos line

So, I listened to the track titled “Equestria”. I do like the “Ponies Got the Beat” intro, but… not gonna lie, the song in the new album was kinda better.

But really, ANY song would fit well, in my opinion.

I’m so buying the score once it’s available in my region.

The thing about The Mane Six is that they’ve saved the world multiple times, but it’s mostly just by virtue of passing various tests of character. Otherwise, they’re not exactly world-saving materiel. Having thought about it, I think The Movie is an exploration of this idea.

The Mane Six are part of two separate yet overlapping stories. In one story, they get lost in the desert, Rarity nearly gets them sold into slavery, and Rainbow Dash gets them spotted and gets the pirate ship destroyed. They nearly get killed multiple times on their adventure. The Mane Six are no match for this scary outside world, and Twilight is the only one willing to do what’s required in order to save Equestria.

In the other story, The Mane Six escape the invasion, cross the desert, escape their pursuers, convince others to join their cause, manage to get a ride to Mt. Aris, find the Hippogriffs, and convince The Queen to help them. All of this was possible because they were good ponies and stuck together. The Mane Six are plenty qualified to take on the world, and Twilight ruined everything by abandoning the virtues that let The Mane Six succeed.

As of December 5th, 2018 (3 days ago),
the Japanese version of the MLP movie has been released on DVD and select livestream options.

It has been retitled 映画マイリトルポニー プリンセスの大冒険
aka ‘Movie My Little Pony: Princess’ Great Adventure’

Here is a Japanese dub/sub of one of the trailers:

Being a fan of the Japanese Dub, and knowing they’ve kept the same mane six VAs from the start
( tho I’ve only seen the first 2 seasons and bits of JP EQG, not FIM eps later on JP’s netflix)
I really want to watch this Japanese dubbed MLP movie!

From checking out the *MLP JPN Twitter,
it seems like the best choice for getting to watch it livestream is on *Tsutaya TV.
Keeping it for 48 hours is roughly $4.50, keeping it indefinitely is a bit over $22.

I am wondering if there are any second opinions on whether I should even try to watch it on Tsutaya or not.
For all I know I will be locked out of viewing because I’m in the USA….
It’s available on *Amazon’s JP site too, but seems to be DVD only…

So, I’ve tried to sign up on **Tsutaya TV just to watch **this movie in Japanese,
I even figured out how to properly enter my last & first name in kanji and katakana (I think).

But even so, there is some kind of error message when I try submitting my info…
I don’t know if it’s just an indirect way to say ‘F you, this is region locked content’,
or if I’m filling out the form wrong, or what.

Here’s the part that I might be getting wrong:

As far as I know, I have to enter my last then first name in kanji on the 1st part,
then katakana on the 2nd part.
If anyone can translate what steps 2 & 3 are saying too, that’d be great, cause I can’t translate words-in-pictures through google, and I never got that far in the process either.

I would consider the *Amazon JP option,
but they only offer DVD form, and I’d have to invest in some kind of disc drive for my computer then…

So I’ve finally scraped together enough courage to try and watch this. Almost choked to death on wine at “raised in a bard” part. So far so good.

@Joshua
Err… yes. I don’t even have autocorrect to blame for this. Although technically I guess it is possible to be raised in a bard if it’s a construct of some kind or a kangaroo.

Yeah, there was a number of other enjoyable moments. What keeps me puzzled is how easily ponies, Equestrian ponies especially, accept the idea of someone’s profession being “taking booty” from others. It’s certainly way past S1 times of “it’s a fantasy world with as little mirroring real life as possible” but that still seems like a bit too much.
At least Ingham’s work is excellent as always.

@Joshua
I just can’t make a post without a typo today, don’t I. And I suppose I agree with you on the overall impression. The story had to be this way to remain appealing to various target audiences.
S8 feels the same in general so far as well. Feels weird finally starting to catch up.
