Yes but lifting up the weight of a recently born filly should be lot easier than lifting up an young adult unicorn, also the thing is casting other spells while already levitating self, that’s probably the two main problems.
 
even though it does feel unfair seen unicorns take the roles of pegasi it ain’t something new in the series, I mean even Rarity could weather control through her magic… but then again unicorns that does not have a Magic related cutie mark usually displays lot less power and control over magic, just take normal background unicorns and compare to the ones we know: Twilight, Trixie, Sunset and Starlight, their control over magic is notable higher than others unicorns, so for them I guess it is alright to “steal” the pegasus role hehe
